Manchester City midfielder Rodri has taken up drone flying, but there are reports he’s been flying it dangerously close to the apartments of people living nearby.
Rodri was named the world’s top footballer in 2024, but he’s missed a significant amount of playing time over the past two years due to injuries. He’s currently playing well after recovering, though reports suggest he’s been causing issues with his neighbors off the field.
Police have received complaints that a 29-year-old man is using a drone to invade the privacy of his neighbors.
Man City ace apparently flying drone near neighbor’s apartments
The Sun newspaper published a report detailing the situation, featuring direct quotes from residents near Rodri’s upscale apartment in central Manchester.
A local resident told a British newspaper that they were shocked to see a drone flying just a meter from their window while relaxing at home with their partner. They said it was the last thing they expected to see.
My wife is really bothered by this. We chose to live on a high floor for privacy, but now Rodri is constantly flying a drone around and disturbing us.
A neighbor reported seeing the drone flying near their window and then returning to Rodri’s apartment balcony. They said he seems to have plenty of money and spends his time flying the drone close to people’s homes.
Residents have complained about activity near the home of the Manchester City midfielder, and some have reported it to the police. Greater Manchester Police confirmed they received a complaint and are currently investigating.
People who noticed the delay shared photos seemingly showing Rodri holding a game controller and looking upwards.
Rodri has been in trouble with the FA too
With the current allegations still being investigated, a separate review of Rodri’s actions has just finished. This review focused specifically on his performance and conduct on the field.
I was pretty shocked after City’s draw with Spurs! Rodri came out and said some strong stuff about the ref, Robert Jones, basically accusing him of being biased and deliberately making calls to prevent City from winning. It definitely seemed like he felt the referee wasn’t being fair.
Rodri has been fined £80,000 for his recent comments, but he won’t be suspended from playing. According to BBC Sport, the FA’s commission unanimously agreed that his comments didn’t warrant a ban related to playing time.
Rodri previously explained that his comments were taken out of context and that he didn’t mean to imply any wrongdoing by the referees.
