Man charged after taking bird into bar and bragging about giving it beer

A man in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, is accused of animal cruelty for bringing a bird into a bar and telling people he gave it beer to drink.

On February 21st, police in Greensburg, Pennsylvania were called to Callaghan’s Bar by a bartender. The reason? A customer, Timothy Grace, had brought a parakeet with him – tucked into his back pocket! While bars sometimes see unusual visitors, this was a particularly strange way to bring one in.

KDKA News reports that police say a man named Grace was telling people at a bar he gave his parakeet marijuana and beer every day.

The man, age 40, said the parakeet belonged to him. An expert in bird care is now looking after the bird and discovered it has a broken leg and is having trouble breathing.

Man bragged about giving bird beer and drugs

Grace is accused of a serious crime – animal cruelty – because his actions made a bird sick.

Honestly, I’m really hoping he faces serious consequences for what he did to that animal. It’s awful, and he could actually end up in jail and have to pay a fine. If he’s convicted, I’m glad he won’t be allowed to own any animals again – and for a long time, too, depending on what the judge decides. It’s the least that should happen.

Blue Skies, a bird currently being cared for by PEARL Parrot Rescue in Pittsburgh, is now breathing normally as part of his recovery.

Grace wasn’t the first person to be charged with giving alcohol to a bird. Earlier, on February 24th, Cesar Gustavo Diaz in Los Angeles received a 45-day jail sentence for giving a Buzzball cocktail to a Cooper’s Hawk.

Gustavo Diaz recorded the incident and posted it on YouTube. In addition to serving jail time, he must complete 20 days of community service, attend 24 sessions of animal cruelty counseling, and is prohibited from owning animals or possessing firearms for five and ten years respectively. He also has to pay $220 in fines and court costs.
