Man already charged with vehicle theft drives stolen car to court hearing

A man from Soledad, California, aged 41, was arrested after driving a stolen vehicle to his own court appearance for a separate car theft charge. The arrest happened right outside the courthouse.

On March 24, 2026, officers with the Multi-Agency Detail Combating Auto Theft (MADCAT) saw Ricardo Otero drive into the Salinas Courthouse parking lot in a car that had been stolen from San Jose. Otero was already due in court that day on a previous charge related to stealing a car.

Arrested before stepping foot inside

So, after the court stuff, the deputies grabbed Otero right outside. It was pretty smooth, no drama. They booked him on a bunch of charges – apparently, he was driving a car he wasn’t supposed to, and all this happened while he was already out on bail for something else! Oh, and his license was suspended too. Talk about a bad day.
