Erik Per Sullivan, who played Dewey on Malcolm in the Middle, reportedly declined a substantial amount of money to return for the show’s revival, according to his former TV mom.
Everyone loved ‘Malcolm in the Middle,’ a popular sitcom from the early 2000s. With so many shows being revived lately, it’s exciting to hear it’s coming back with a new season called ‘Life’s Still Unfair.’
Frankie Muniz is reprising his role as Malcolm, and Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek are returning as his parents, Hal and Lois.
Indeed pretty much the entire ensemble said yes to the opportunity; all apart from one young star.
Malcolm in the Middle’s Erik Per Olsen picked Harvard over sitcom
Erik Per Sullivan, known for his role as Dewey on ‘Malcolm in the Middle,’ won’t be appearing in the show’s upcoming sequel because he’s currently a student at Harvard University.

Last June, Bryan Cranston shared that his former ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ co-star, Erik Per Sullivan, quickly dismissed the idea of a show revival when they discussed it.
In an interview on the Fly On The Wall podcast, Bryan Cranston shared a conversation he had with Erik. He told Erik the show had been renewed for another season, and Erik initially responded with excitement. However, Erik quickly changed his tune, saying he didn’t want to participate despite the good news.
So, apparently, Sullivan’s been off acting for ages, totally focused on studying at Harvard – good for him! And I just read in The Guardian that Kaczmarek actually turned down a big offer to come back. Seems like everyone’s got their own thing going on, which is cool.
The stars of ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ – Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston, and Jane Kaczmarek – are getting back together for a new version of the show on Disney+.

According to Kaczmarek, he’s a fantastic student currently studying Dickens. Despite a very generous offer to return, he declined it politely.
Caleb Ellsworth-Clark will be taking on the role of Dewey. The four new episodes will premiere on Hulu and Disney+ on April 10, 2026, and will center around a family reunion celebrating Lois and Hal’s 40th wedding anniversary.
As a huge Malcolm in the Middle fan, I’m so excited! It looks like the upcoming project, ‘Life’s Still Unfair,’ is finally going to answer a question that’s been bugging us for years about the show. I can’t wait to find out what happens!
