Malcolm in the Middle Reboot: Original Cast Reunites, One Star Missing

As a huge Malcolm in the Middle fan, I was so excited to see a set photo hinting at the Disney+ reboot! It looks like Frankie Muniz is definitely back as Malcolm, which is fantastic. Even better, Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek are reprising their roles as his wonderfully quirky parents, Hal and Lois. It’s great to see so many familiar faces, though it’s a little sad to note that not all the original cast are involved.

A new series called Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair, featuring four half-hour episodes, will be coming to Disney+. Production finished in May, and it’s scheduled to launch in December, though the specific date hasn’t been revealed.

Frankie Muniz recently shared a photo of himself with Justin Berfield and Christopher Masterson, the actors who played his on-screen brothers Reese and Francis in the original ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ and are also appearing in the new revival. Muniz admitted he wasn’t supposed to share the picture yet, but felt he had to after being reminded of the show’s theme song and how much he misses working with them. He’s clearly excited for fans to see the new episodes! You can see the post below.

Erik Per Sullivan, who famously played Dewey on the original show, isn’t appearing in the new series. He’s currently focused on completing a master’s degree at Harvard and has stepped away from acting, with his last role being in the 2010 film Twelve. He’s the only one of the show’s original main actors who won’t be reprising their role.

I’m excited to share that Caleb Ellsworth-Clark is taking over the role of Dewey! He might be new to Malcolm in the Middle, but he’s a really talented actor who’s already been in some amazing shows. You might recognize him from Wyonna Earp, The Handmaid’s Tale, The Expanse, or even Fargo! I think he’s going to be fantastic.

Even with some cast changes, everyone involved with the revival of the classic sitcom seems thrilled. Recently, actor Frankie Muniz shared his excitement online, hinting at a reunion between his character Malcolm and two of his brothers.

Disney’s Eric Schrier has hinted that if the first four episodes of the new season perform well, Malcolm in the Middle could be renewed for additional seasons. Strong viewership could lead to more reunions and continued seasons of the show.

Disney+ has found success with original series based on popular franchises like Star Wars, Marvel, and Percy Jackson. However, Malcolm in the Middle presents a different type of well-loved show that could be Disney+’s next big hit.
