In the first episode of Malcolm in the Middle, Malcolm asks, “What’s the best thing about being a kid?” He answers himself: “Eventually, it ends.” Now, it’s time for Malcolm to reconnect with his famously wild family.
The trailer for Hulu’s upcoming Malcolm reunion, Life’s Still Unfair, shows a very happy Malcolm (Frankie Muniz) who has managed to avoid his family for two decades. He cheerfully explains that his life is great now that he’s distanced himself from them. He’s built a life with his own daughter (played by Keeley Karsten, who starred in The Fabelmans), but a 40th wedding anniversary brings him back into the fold. Malcolm’s wife, Piama Tananahaakna (Emy Coligado), encourages him to face his family, saying he can’t hide forever. Malcolm, however, believes his strategy was working perfectly… until his parents reappeared.
Most of the original cast will be back for the reboot, including Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek as parents Hal and Lois, and Christopher Masterson and Justin Berfield as Malcolm’s brothers Francis and Reese. The only main actor not returning is Erik Per Sullivan, who played Dewey. He stopped acting after the original series ended and is now pursuing education at Harvard, where he’s currently getting his master’s degree. He reportedly has no interest in returning to acting. Caleb Ellsworth-Clark will be taking on the role of Dewey instead. We wish him all the best!
The show returns with a four-episode season on Hulu starting April 10th, and for actor Frankie Muniz, filming it was another difficult experience to look back on.
