The debut trailer for “Magazine Dreams,” a physically intense drama starring Jonathan Majors, has been unveiled. Previously delayed due to Majors’ assault conviction against his former partner, it is now set to hit cinemas on March 21, distributed by Briarcliff Entertainment.
In the movie, Majors portrays aspiring amateur bodybuilder Killian Maddox, who yearns for fame in the ruthless realm of bodybuilding. Despite warnings from doctors and facing challenges from his peers, he persists in his pursuit of stardom at a cost to both his physical and mental wellbeing.
Following its successful premiere at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival and a subsequent bidding war that resulted in ‘Magazine Dreams’ being acquired by Searchlight Pictures for around seven million dollars, the movie was released by the distributor in January 2024. However, controversy arose when actor Michael Majors was accused of domestic violence against his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari, ultimately leading to the film’s withdrawal from distribution.
In March 2023, Majors was apprehended in Manhattan. This incident resulted in him being indicted on multiple charges of assault and aggravated harassment directed towards Jabbari. Subsequently, a court trial took place in New York where he was convicted of two minor offenses related to harassment and assault. In a separate legal action, Jabbari filed a lawsuit against Majors for assault and defamation; however, this case was resolved through a settlement in November 2024.
As a movie critic, I had the pleasure of viewing “Magazine Dreams,” a captivating production that features Haley Bennett in the role of Jessie, who shares an intriguing dynamic with Killian, portrayed by another talented actor. Alongside them on the silver screen, we find Taylour Paige, Mike O’Hearn, Harrison Page, and Harriet Sansom Harris. Elijah Bynum, known for his work in “Hot Summer Nights,” takes on the dual roles of writer and director. Majors served as an executive producer alongside Andrew Blau and Luke Rodgers, ensuring a polished final product.
