Christian Gonzales (CB), New England Patriots – 96 OVR (+1)

Gonzales’ numbers might not jump out at you, but quarterbacks are avoiding throwing his way because he’s become one of the league’s best cornerbacks. So far in 2025, he’s only allowed 13 catches, averaging just 9.5 yards per reception – about 130 yards total in eight games. While Drake Maye is getting a lot of attention, this Patriots defense is full of talented players, and Gonzales is a key part of it as a cornerback who consistently shuts down opposing receivers.

Jonathan Taylor (HB), Indianapolis Colts – 95 OVR (+1)

Man, Saquon Taylor is absolutely killing it this year! Our offensive line is giving him huge holes to run through, and Daniel Jones is playing really well, which is making everything click. I’m averaging over 106 rushing yards a game right now, and if I keep this up, I could hit over 1,800 yards for the season – that would be amazing! Last week against Tennessee, I only needed 12 carries to rack up 153 yards and two touchdowns. Honestly, I think I’m playing at an MVP level and should definitely be in that conversation.

Trent McDuffie (CB), Kansas City Chiefs – 95 OVR (+1)

After a shaky start to the season, the Chiefs have turned things around, going 5-1. While Patrick Mahomes and the offense are playing better, the defense, led by Trent McDuffie, deserves a lot of the credit. McDuffie has been excellent, allowing only 21 catches in eight games. The entire Chiefs defense has also stepped up, holding opponents to just 24 points total over the last three games. McDuffie is expected to keep playing well within Steve Spagnuolo’s defensive scheme.

James Cook III (HB), Buffalo Bills – 92 OVR (+1)

James Cook had a fantastic game in the Bills’ 40-9 victory against the Carolina Panthers, rushing for 216 yards. That brings his season total to 753 rushing yards, the second-highest in the league. He also scored two touchdowns, giving him seven total touchdowns for the season. Most importantly, the win ended a two-game losing streak for the Bills, which should help them as they try to close the gap with the Patriots in their division.

Jordan Love (QB), Green Bay Packers – 86 OVR (+1)

Jordan Love had an outstanding performance as the Packers beat the Steelers, facing his former teammate on national television. He completed almost 80% of his passes for 360 yards and threw three touchdowns in the Week 8 victory. With a current record of 5-1-1, Green Bay is leading the NFC, and continued performances like this from their quarterback will be crucial to maintain their position.

Drake Maye (QB), New England Patriots – 85 OVR (+2)

The league’s top passer from 2025 is still playing exceptionally well. Maye recently threw for 282 yards with only 24 passes, scoring three touchdowns and one interception. The New England Patriots are currently 6-2, leading the AFC East and holding the second-best record in the entire AFC. All eyes will be on him this weekend as the Patriots take on Atlanta at home.

Additionally, several other players received an increase to their Madden 26 Player Rating:

  • Rashee Rice – 84 OVR (+1)
  • Tucker Kraft – 83 OVR (+2)
  • Tyler Warren – 83 OVR (+1)
  • Rome Odunze – 83 OVR (+1)
  • Daniel Jones – 81 OVR (+1)

However, other notable players received a decrease to their Madden 26 Player Rating:

  • Bijan Robinson – 94 OVR (-1)
  • Jessie Bates III – 94 OVR (-1)
  • Christian McCaffrey – 91 OVR (-1)
  • Jayden Daniels – 83 OVR (-1)
  • Chris Godwin Jr. – 83 OVR (-1)

Week 9 of the NFL kicked off last night with a dominant performance by the Baltimore Ravens, who defeated the Miami Dolphins 28-6. Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson looked sharp in his return, throwing for four touchdowns. The Dolphins, however, had a tough night, with Tua Tagovailoa struggling and unable to get his team into the endzone, while also throwing an interception.

Week 9 has some exciting games lined up, especially the matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills. The Bills are playing well after losing their last two games, and the Chiefs have really turned things around after a slow start. See who Madden 26 predicts will win this weekend’s big game!
