I’ve been consistently impressed with Macon Blair’s work lately. He’s really proven himself as an actor, popping up in huge films like Reservoir Dogs and, more recently, Oppenheimer. But he’s not just in front of the camera; he’s a talented writer too, having penned the screenplays for hits like The Toxic Avenger and Brothers. Now, he’s got a brand new comedy coming out that he wrote and directed, and I’m expecting it to really turn heads – especially with comedies aiming to stand out in the crowded 2026 release schedule. He’s definitely one to watch!
Originally called The Shitheads, this new comedy premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival. It follows two people at their lowest points who team up to transport a wealthy, troubled teenager to rehab for a somewhat questionable company. This leads to a series of chaotic and funny events. As the film prepares for its release later this year, some adjustments have been made.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Macon Blair’s new film, originally titled The Shitheads, will now be released as Idiots. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on August 28, 2026. Blair shared that he had grown fond of the original title and was prepared to keep it until someone officially objected to its use.
