Macaulay Culkin Says Joe Pesci ‘Was Trying to Scare Me’ During ‘Home Alone’ Rehearsals and Ended Up Biting My Finger: ‘I Have a Scar’

As a seasoned movie critic with a penchant for nostalgia, I must say that the recent revelations about the behind-the-scenes antics of “Home Alone” have only served to enrich my appreciation for this classic Christmas film. Macaulay Culkin‘s anecdote about Joe Pesci accidentally biting his finger during rehearsals is a testament to the raw, unscripted energy that often permeates the set of even the most beloved movies.

This time of year is perfect for watching “Home Alone,” and Macaulay Culkin is well aware of it! The actor is currently traveling across the country for an event called “A Nostalgic Night With Macaulay Culkin.” During this event, he screens “Home Alone” followed by a question-and-answer session. At a recent stop in Rosemont, Illinois (as reported by The New York Times), Culkin shared that his co-star Joe Pesci actually nipped at his finger while rehearsing a scene where Pesci’s character Harry threatens Culkin’s character Kevin McCallister.

According to The Times, Culkin shared an incident where Pesci tried to intimidate him during filming. He said Pesci intentionally acted menacing towards the young actor. In one instance, while practicing a scene where Pesci’s character Harry threatened to bite off Kevin’s fingers, Pesci unintentionally bit Culkin too hard, leaving a scar. However, in that moment, Culkin didn’t show much reaction. Culkin remembered that he had never seen Joe Pesci frightened before, but this time, Pesci seemed scared because he had just bitten a child.

A representative for Pesci declined to comment to EbMaster.

During the filming of “Home Alone,” Catherine O’Hara, Pesci’s co-star, was far from scary. In fact, this Emmy-winning actress played the role of Culkin’s mother to Kevin and has continued to be a nurturing figure in his life. Culkin himself refers to her as “mom” whenever they meet, and she welcomes him warmly with open arms and calls him “son.

Last year, Culkin was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and O’Hara delivered a touching tribute to her fellow actor. More recently, they both stepped back into their iconic roles for “Home Alone 2: Misplaced in New York.

‘Home Alone’ remains a cherished global phenomenon across time, and it’s Macaulay Culkin who keeps families worldwide yearning to rewatch and adore this classic film together. As O’Hara expressed, Culkin made acting seem effortless and incredibly natural.
