On Monday, Lynn Ban, a jewelry designer and cast member on “Bling Empire: New York” from Netflix, passed away following a tragic skiing accident and subsequent brain surgery in late December. She was 51 years old.
On Wednesday, Sebastian posted on his mother’s Instagram account that she had passed away on Monday. He felt that since she had wished to update her followers about her journey following her accident and brain surgery, it was fitting to share this final news with them. Many of you may not have known my mother personally, but I’d like to take this opportunity to describe who she truly was. She was more than just a friend to me; she was the best mother I could ever ask for, and her compassion knew no bounds.
On December 30th, it was disclosed that Ban had undergone an emergency craniotomy following a skiing mishap in Aspen during a family trip. In a post on Instagram, she described the incident: “At the summit of the mountain, I lost control and fell headfirst.” After being given the all-clear for a concussion by the paramedics on the ski patrol, Ban was escorted to the hospital alongside her husband.
I traveled in a taxi with Kain (referred to as Jett here) and within half an hour, they informed us that I had a brain hemorrhage and required immediate airlift to the trauma hospital. The last thing I recall is being intubated, then waking up following an emergency craniotomy with Jett by my bedside.
Lynn Ban is the proprietor of her own jewelry line, named after herself, and her designs have adorned celebrities such as Rihanna, Beyoncé, and others. In 2023, she made an appearance on “Bling Empire: New York,” a spin-off of the original “Bling Empire” series. This show focuses on a select group of wealthy Asian-Americans residing in New York City, showcasing their extravagant lives.
Throughout her challenging recovery, she never failed to keep a smile on her face – this was a testament to her resilience. She was an unyielding fighter till the very end and remains the strongest woman I’ve ever known. She was not just my mom, but also the funniest and coolest one anyone could ask for. She selflessly cared for me, my dad, and our entire family throughout her life. Although she is physically gone now, I vow to ensure her memory lives on and her life is honored appropriately. To my dear mum, I want you to know that I will miss you endlessly and in closing, I’d like to say something she always told me: ‘I love you more than life itself,’ mum.
