Disney+ won’t have a new Star Wars live-action TV show in 2026, breaking a pattern of yearly releases that began in 2019 with The Mandalorian. Before that show, Star Wars on TV was limited to animated series like The Clone Wars and Rebels. The Mandalorian‘s popularity kickstarted a new wave of Star Wars content, including spin-offs and more big-budget shows. However, Lucasfilm is now focusing more on making movies and currently has only one live-action series scheduled to come out soon.
Although Disney+ has three new Star Wars shows planned for 2026, next year will be the first since 2021 without a completely new, live-action Star Wars series – meaning no shows that are simply continuing existing storylines.
Currently, Ahsoka Season 2 is the only live-action Star Wars series planned for next year, and it will wrap up the shocking ending from 2023. Disney+ will also offer at least two new animated series, plus the streaming release of The Mandalorian & Grogu, which comes to theaters on May 22nd.
In 2026, fans can look forward to new animated Star Wars content with Maul: Shadow Lord and Visions Presents: The Ninth Jedi. However, both shows build on existing stories – Maul: Shadow Lord continues Darth Maul’s journey a year after Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and The Ninth Jedi expands on stories from two episodes of Visions Volumes 1 and 3.

BONUS.) 2019 – The Mandalorian

While not part of a consistent stream of new Star Wars shows on Disney+, the first season of The Mandalorian in 2019 was important. Its second season was the only live-action Star Wars series released in 2020. The show, starring Pedro Pascal, deserves recognition for playing a key role in the launch of both Disney+ and live-action Star Wars television as a whole.
2021 – The Book of Boba-Fett

Following his return to the Star Wars universe in Season 2 of The Mandalorian, Temuera Morrison played Boba Fett again in his own Disney+ series, which premiered in 2021.
It doesn’t look good for Boba Fett after his own Disney+ show, The Book of Boba Fett. The series likely won’t continue, and the character seems to be sidelined in the Star Wars universe. Originally planned for Season 4 of The Mandalorian, his role disappeared when the show was reimagined as The Mandalorian & Grogu.
2022 – Obi-Wan Kenobi & Andor

Look, for years fans begged for more Obi-Wan Kenobi, and finally, Ewan McGregor delivered in a six-episode series on Disney+. It’s fascinating to learn this wasn’t always intended as a streaming show, though. Apparently, it started as the first part of a planned movie trilogy! Sadly, don’t hold your breath for those other chapters – a second season seems pretty unlikely at this point.
Created by Tony Gilroy and starring Diego Luna, the series Andor—a prequel to Rogue One—is widely considered one of the best Star Wars shows Disney has produced, and recently returned for a second season. It stands out due to its compelling political story, impressive visual effects, and excellent performances.
2023 – Ahsoka

As a huge Star Wars fan, I was so thrilled to finally see Ahsoka get her own series in 2023! Seeing Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka, who you might know from Daredevil, was fantastic. It was great to continue her story from The Mandalorian, and even better knowing that Dave Filoni – the person who created the character – was leading the whole project. It really left me wanting more!
2024 – The Acolyte & Skeleton Crew (Episodes 1-6)

Despite being one of Disney+’s most talked-about Star Wars shows, The Acolyte is also a significant departure for the franchise. The eight-episode series explored the High Republic era with a Dark Side mystery, but it won’t be continuing, as a second season has been canceled.
Despite some challenges, Star Wars had a bright spot last year with the release of Skeleton Crew, a new adventure set in the same universe as The Mandalorian. This Disney+ series, which premiered in December 2024, follows a group of kids facing off against pirates in a thrilling space mystery and was generally well-received.
2025 – Skeleton Crew (Episodes 7-8)

The nostalgic, adventure-filled series Skeleton Crew, reminiscent of classic Amblin films, finished telling its story in 2025 with the release of its last two episodes.
It’s still unknown if Skeleton Crew will get a second season on Disney+ and whether its young actors will return. However, there are reports that Jude Law’s character from the Star Wars universe will reappear, though details about his role and timing are currently vague.
