On the show, Alex claimed he was drafted into Major League Soccer but sidelined by injuries. When his fiancée, Ashley Carpenter, mentioned Tim Howard, Alex casually said he’d met the goalie and found him “weird.” Howard’s daughter, a viewer of the show, brought the comment to her father’s attention.

On his podcast, Unfiltered Soccer, Howard stated he had reliable information for a fan and offered a solution: a public apology.
