Documentary filmmaker Louis Theroux has admitted he was too scared to ever create a film about ISIS, revealing it’s the one subject he’s avoided throughout his career.
Louis Theoux has been getting a lot of attention lately because of his new Netflix documentary, ‘Into the Manosphere,’ and the discussions it’s sparked.
The film explores his attempt to make sense of the latest, and often debated, generation of male social media personalities. It includes conversations with figures like HSTikkyTokky, Ed Matthews, Myron Gaines, Justin Waller, and Sneako.
The documentary also sparked some trouble, including debate over comments about Jimmy Savile, a widely held misunderstanding, and a public disagreement with Andrew Tate regarding Google searches. During interviews about the film, Theorux revealed a topic he’s hesitant to explore.
Louis Theroux says he “wouldn’t have felt safe” covering ISIS

I’ve seen Louis Theroux dive into some seriously heavy stuff – he’s done documentaries on things like Apartheid, that Westboro Baptist Church, even really difficult topics like paedophilia and Neo-Nazis. More recently, he was looking at the situation in the West Bank. But apparently, there’s one subject he just didn’t feel right covering, which is pretty surprising considering everything else he’s done.
Louis Theroux admitted he once considered traveling to areas controlled by ISIS, but ultimately decided against it, primarily due to fear, he told LadBible.
I still vividly remember the horrific things ISIS did – the images of people in orange jumpsuits being executed, and the way they’d round people up and throw them off buildings, burn them alive, or even crucify them. It was absolutely brutal and something I’ll never forget.
It felt like a strange return to medieval thinking, with shockingly violent acts being carried out – almost as if they were being flaunted.
As someone who studies people and how groups can behave irrationally, this situation seemed like the clearest and most extreme example I’d ever seen. It was truly frightening, and honestly, I didn’t feel it would have been safe for anyone on my team – or even myself – to go there, so we decided to stay away.
