Lost cat reunites with owner after 12 years as a stray and immediately recognizes her

After being lost for more than ten years, a cat immediately recognized his owner when they were reunited after a 12-year separation.

In 2014, Angela Furniva lost her black cat, Sam, and wasn’t able to find him despite searching everywhere.

Sam was discovered more than half a mile from his home in England, and authorities think he managed to survive for ten years by scavenging for food.

On March 20, 2026, after many years, 63-year-old Furniva got a call from a veterinarian. They said Sam, now 15 years old, had been found by a couple who contacted Paws Together Enville, the animal rescue organization.

Okay, so this charity posted a video that totally got to me. It showed Furniva and Sam meeting up after twelve years! They instantly clicked and it was super emotional – I actually teared up watching it. It was a really powerful moment.

The video’s caption exclaimed, “This is a miracle!” after Sammy was reunited with his owner after twelve years of being lost.

We rescued a stray cat who had been living on the streets for over ten years and discovered he had some health problems. Thankfully, we were able to find his owner, Angela. She had never stopped looking for him, but after twelve years without any luck, she was starting to lose hope.

Veterinarians were able to contact Angela because her phone number hadn’t been updated, and it was linked to Sam’s microchip information.

I was totally floored when I got the call – seriously, I couldn’t believe it! It was amazing news. I honestly didn’t think Sam would ever come back, so this was a huge surprise.

The reunion video showed Sam rolling onto his stomach, happily accepting pets from his owner – a reaction that amazed the veterinarians present.

According to the vets, he hadn’t shown these kinds of behaviors before. Angela said he was usually quiet and kept to himself. They believed he would have recognized her, and she figures he must have. It’s strange, considering how many harsh winters he endured – it’s remarkable he lived through it all.
