Long-In-Development Just Cause Movie Gets New Update As Jack Ryan Writer Comes Aboard

For nearly fifteen years, the movie version of Just Cause has been making incremental progress within the challenging landscape of Hollywood’s production process, often referred to as development hell. Now, there’s a fresh development in the story as Aaron Rabin, who has contributed to Prime Video’s Jack Ryan series, is set to advance the project further.

As reported by The Wrap, it appears that Rabin is teaming up with Angel Manuel Soto, who recently signed on as director for Blue Beetle in May. Notably, Rabin has previously worked on projects such as Silent River and Nobody 2, where Bob Odenkirk from Better Call Saul will reprise his role from the initial film.

Director David Leitch, known for movies like John Wick Chapter 2 and Deadpool 2, is collaborating with Kelly McCormick on the production of Just Cause. They have previously worked together on projects such as Violent Night, Bullet Train, Nobody, and The Fall Guy. As of now, Universal Pictures has announced they will be releasing Just Cause; however, a specific release date has not been established yet.

The initial Just Cause game came out in 2006, introducing players to Rico Rodriguez, a skilled agent from The Agency who specializes in covertly overthrowing hostile governments. More recently, Just Cause 4 was launched in 2018, but a new installment of the series is currently under development as announced by Square Enix in 2022. Regrettably, Square Enix decided to scrap Just Cause Mobile just before its full launch in 2023. Furthermore, Avalanche Studios, the developer of Just Cause, shut down two of its studios in 2024 amidst the numerous job losses experienced in the industry last year.
