Lioness Season 3’s Yellowstone Addition Continues a Positive Trend for Taylor Sheridan’s Espionage Series

The new series *Lioness* has added a popular actor from Taylor Sheridan’s *Yellowstone*, continuing a positive pattern for the show. This news comes after *Lioness* was renewed for a third season on October 1st. The thriller, which stars Joe Saldaña and Nicole Kidman, launched in 2023 and already featured some actors audiences recognized from *Yellowstone* and its prequel, *1883*.

Similar to *Yellowstone*, *Lioness* is one of the few shows not continuing with a new season in 2025. Taylor Sheridan’s other dramas, *Tulsa King* (Season 3) and *Mayor of Kingstown* (Season 4), will be back this fall, and *Landman* Season 2 will stream on Paramount+ in November. Despite this, a third season of *Lioness* should be good, particularly with familiar actors from Sheridan’s other projects involved.

Lioness Season 3 Has Added Yellowstone’s Ian Bohen to the Cast

Before the third season begins, the show *Lioness* is adding Ian Bohen, known for his role as Ryan on *Yellowstone*. Many *Yellowstone* viewers will remember Ryan as the cowboy and Livestock Agent who worked for John Dutton. He was a consistent presence at the Dutton Ranch, unlike other workers who didn’t stay long. In the final episode, Ryan followed his girlfriend, Abby, to Texas, promising to join her on her music tour.

This isn’t the first time Gil Birmingham has worked with Taylor Sheridan on a project outside of *Yellowstone*. He previously appeared in Sheridan’s 2017 film *Wind River* and also had a role in *Sicario: Day of the Soldado*. So, it’s not unexpected to see him in another Sheridan production. This is especially good news for fans, as Ryan’s storyline on *Yellowstone* appears to be finished for the time being.

Lioness Has a Rich History of Casting Popular Yellowstone Actors

The series *Lioness* continues a trend of casting actors from *Yellowstone*, and James Jordan is a great example. He plays Two Cups on *Lioness*, but fans will recognize him from his role as Livestock Agent Steve Hendon in *Yellowstone*. Hendon is a bit of a troublemaker who often complicates things for Kayce and Jamie Dutton.

Jordan also appears as Cookie in *1883*, a character known for being unpredictable and potentially endangering the group’s journey when she goes off course from James Dutton’s plans. Stephanie Nur, also from *1883*, played Melodi, the performer at the White Elephant saloon who flirts with Shea Brennan. In *Lioness*, Nur takes on the role of Aaliyah Amrohi, a key player in the season’s counterterrorism storyline.

Dave Annabel appears in both *Yellowstone* and *Lioness*. Though his part in *Yellowstone* is short, it’s a crucial one – he plays John Dutton’s eldest son, who dies in the very first episode. In *Lioness*, Annabel plays Neal, the husband of the main character, Joe. His character provides a glimpse into Joe’s personal life as she tries to juggle the pressures of her job with the CIA and her family.

What Ian Bohen’s Role Means For Lioness Season 3

The casting of Bohen suggests Joe’s counterterrorism team might gain a new member or someone to offer expert advice. Bohen will play Grady, a highly skilled Delta Force operator who specializes in working with military dogs and is well-versed in combat strategies. While Grady’s expertise would be valuable to the team, his strict adherence to rules could create friction, as Joe typically prefers a more unconventional approach.

Grady might join Joe’s team because of his connection to Cruz Manuelos, who was played by Laysla De Oliveira in Season 1 of *Lioness*. Cruz previously worked with Joe’s team and later became a Delta Force operator. She rejoined the team in Season 2 when Joe found her for another assignment. Because of this shared history, Grady could potentially work with Cruz again if she’s needed for Season 3 of *Lioness*.

Can Ian Bohen Return to the Yellowstone Universe?

Even though Bohen is coming back to the world of *Lioness* in Season 3, that doesn’t prevent Ryan from potentially returning to *Yellowstone*. Although the original *Yellowstone* series ended with Season 5 in December 2024, the story will continue through several new shows. He could reappear in the continuation focusing on Beth and Rip, currently known as *The Dutton Ranch*, or in *Y: Marshals* featuring Kayce Dutton on CBS. However, the most probable scenario is that Ryan will continue his storyline in *6666*, the *Yellowstone* spinoff set in Texas, picking up where he left off.

Forrest Lucas Bohen might reappear in a future prequel series, *1944*, which will explore the history of the Dutton family. However, viewers are also eager to find out what happens with his *Yellowstone* character, Ryan, and his renewed relationship with Abby after their kiss in the finale. While fans wait for updates on Ryan and Abby, Bohen will be appearing in Season 3 of *Lioness*.
