Linda Hamilton, best known for her role in science fiction films, unexpectedly appeared in the first episode of Dark Winds Season 4. Her appearance marked a poignant addition to her acting career in the AMC thriller series.
Linda Hamilton is famous for playing Sarah Connor in the Terminator movies. In 2019, she returned to the role in Terminator: Dark Fate, alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger, Gabriel Luna, and McKenzie Davis. More recently, she appeared in Season 5 of Stranger Things as Dr. Kay, a villainous military doctor conducting experiments related to the Upside Down in Hawkins.
She now appears in Dark Winds, a psychological thriller on AMC, inspired by the Leaphorn & Chee novels by Tony Hillerman. The show primarily centers around Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn, Officer Jim Chee, and Sergeant Bernadette Manuelito as they solve unusual crimes in Navajo County.
For those familiar with his roles in The Terminator and Stranger Things, Hamilton’s part in this is unexpectedly much more tragic.
Linda Hamilton’s Dark Winds Season 4 cameo was a tribute to her mother
In Season 4 of Dark Winds, Linda Hamilton appears as Barbara Sena in a brief but heartwarming scene. While Navajo Tribal Police officer Leaphorn assists Acting Chief Gordo Sena (A. Martinez) with a flat tire, it’s subtly revealed that Barbara is unaware she’s experiencing memory loss.
Hamilton told People magazine she felt destined for the role when she discovered the character had the same name as her mother.
The actor remembered a striking moment on set: after their mother lived with dementia for 25 years, they were shown shoes for their character that turned out to be ones their mother used to wear, and the scene was set in the 1970s.
They were the same shade of taupe my mother favored for her leg coverings, a very distinct color popular in the 70s and 80s. It felt really nice to be able to do this as a way of remembering and honoring her.
Hamilton noted that, due to her iconic role in The Terminator, she’s often been cast in similar parts throughout her career, making her work on Season 4 of Dark Winds a welcome and refreshing change.
I’ve played a lot of strong, assertive characters, and I’m ready to move away from that type of role. This scene was a nice change of pace – much gentler and more heartwarming.”
