As a movie connoisseur with a soft spot for romantic dramas and magical realism, I must admit, I was overjoyed to learn that “Like Water for Chocolate” is returning for a second season on Max. The original film adaptation from 1992 has been a staple in my DVD collection, and I’ve watched it so many times, I can practically recite the entire script in Spanish!
In an event held in London last Thursday, it was announced by executive producer Salma Hayek Pinault that “Like Water for Chocolate” will be returning for another season on the streaming platform Max.
Hayek Pinault, in the company of Mariano Cesar, Max Latin America’s top executive, announced that the romantic drama series will not exceed Season 3. “We prefer to limit it to just two seasons,” she stated. “We aim for this to be exceptionally unique.
Like Water for Chocolate,” based on Laura Esquivel’s 1989 magical realism novel, tells the tale of star-crossed lovers Tita and Pedro, whose love story is complicated by traditional family expectations. Tita finds comfort in the kitchen, where she uses magic and flavor to navigate her predestined journey. The film version of this story was directed by Alfonso Arau and released in 1992.
The show premiered on Max on November 3, featuring actors like Azul Guaita, Andres Baida, Irene Azuela, Ana Valeria Becerril, and Andrea Chaparro, along with others.
