One delight of watching Peacock’s “The Traitors” is using our prior knowledge about the reality stars participating in this season’s game to predict their behavior, especially since Alan Cumming observes them over breakfast and burns their portraits. However, as demonstrated by season two’s all-reality-star edition, abilities that excel on shows like “Survivor” or “Real Housewives” might not perfectly apply to a game that requires arguing (perfect for Housewives) and voting people out (ideal for Survivors), but also involves complex dynamics beyond just those skills. Additionally, while we may think we know these TV personalities, they are familiar with each other as well, and past relationships, conflicts, and alliances significantly impact the game in ways that differ from the U.K.’s (excellent) regular-people adaptation of the format.
Predicting the outcome in a game with so many variables and diverse talents can be both thrilling and challenging. It’s hard to say how the mix of known factors, coupled with some unknown elements, will contribute to the exciting concoction that is this game. The favorites might suddenly falter, underdogs could rise, and wildcards could enter the fray. That unpredictability was my downfall last season: I had one of the eventual winners, Trishelle Cannatella, ranked quite high, but her partner, Chris “CT” Tamburello, almost at the bottom. Since then, we’ve learned valuable lessons, so here’s another attempt to guess who might endure in Alan Cumming’s castle of horrors. And even if these initial power rankings turn out to be off the mark, consider this a chance to meet (or reacquaint yourself with) the fame-seekers ready to don their finest tartan for our amusement.
1.
Dolores Catania
Where you might know them from: The Real Housewives of New Jersey’s resident peacemaker.
As a devoted fan, I’d rephrase it this way: Throughout my favorite reality show, Dolores has proven herself as a master of diplomacy, skillfully navigating the complex web of alliances that divide two opposing factions. Her unique ability to empathize, bring humor into tense situations, and remain fiercely loyal have made her a force to be reckoned with. If she manages to maintain her position among both Team Teresa and Team Melissa, there’s no doubt in my mind that she could pull off the challenging role of a double agent, stealthily moving between the Faithful and the Traitors all the way to the final showdown. If Dolores should turn out to be a Traitor, she will undoubtedly leave her mark as the most formidable one yet.
Will be best as: Traitor
2.
Chrishell Strause
You could be familiar with her from: She’s been the mainstay of the show since her husband abruptly left her at the start of season one on “Selling Sunset,” and she’s carried it on her shoulders alone since then.
Pertinent real-life abilities: The series Selling Sunset appears more scripted compared to many other reality shows, making it challenging to gauge how she might present herself in a program with a different production style. However, she’s intelligent, endearing, and often portrays herself as less intelligent than she probably is, which could be beneficial for avid Traitor detectors. Keep an eye out for her forming a tight-knit group of women who remain loyal to the very end.
Will be best as: Faithful
3.
Wells Adams
You might recognize him as a previous contestant on both “The Bachelorette” and “Bachelor in Paradise,” followed by his role as the bartender on the latter series. Additionally, he’s tied the knot with Sarah Hyland, who is known from “Modern Family.
Practical life abilities: Audiences perceive him as gentle and considerate, while serving as the bartender on BIP, he’s renowned for providing sincere, thoughtful guidance. This type of individual can inspire a group of Loyalists to trust in his authenticity and safeguard him till the end – provided that the Betrayers fail to persuade him to change sides, if possible.
Will be best as: Faithful
4.
Carolyn Wiger
Where you might know them from: A wacky fan favorite who came in third on Survivor 44.
Significant life skills demonstrated by Carolyn: Carolyn displayed genuine emotions, was often underestimated, and established strong connections with two fellow tribe members. This trio managed to rise from the bottom post-merge all the way to the final round. She is open about her feelings and has a knack for detecting dishonesty, although I’m not sure if she would deceive others throughout the entire game. However, her authenticity makes it easy for others to trust her as a dedicated loyalist.
Will be best as: Faithful
5.
Tom Sandoval
From which TV show or context might they be recognized: The mustached worm who ignited the entire “Scandoval” on “Vanderpump Rules.
Key skills for this reality show: This individual is an expert in the field of reality TV production, yet most inhabitants of the castle will recognize him as the man who deceived his girlfriend with her close friend and concealed it for several months. Many might assume they have him figured out at the start, but I sense he could be cunning enough to play a double game – his strategy might well be, “They’d be foolish to label me a Traitor when everyone here already thinks I’m this notorious liar.” He may also exhibit such self-centered and irritating behavior (as Katie Maloney can attest) that he’ll advance through annoyance, alienating potential allies and leaving more prominent targets for elimination first. This game could transform his flaws into assets, making him an intriguing character to follow.
Will be best as: Traitor
6.
Gabby Windey
From which familiar contexts one may recognize her: A previous participant in the reality show “The Bachelor”, a co-host of “The Bachelorette” alongside Rachel Recchia, and a runner-up on “Dancing with the Stars”.
Key life abilities demonstrated: Despite appearing as a runner-up on both The Bachelor and Dancing With the Stars, she ended her stint on The Bachelorette with an engagement to a show participant, only to reveal later that she identifies as a lesbian. This suggests that Gabby has layers not immediately apparent, making her an excellent choice for the role of a Traitor.
Will be best as: Traitor
7.
Jeremy Collins
From which show or season could they possibly be recognized: The victor from Survivor: Cambodia, who made a comeback not once but twice, also participating with Tony Vlachos and Rob Mariano in the Winners at War.
Practical life abilities: This man demonstrated his skills in competition against none other than his own wife, leaving her out of the game without compassion. He’s been a strong physical player, skilled at discovering hidden immunity idols, but these talents may only take him so far in Scotland. What could be more beneficial is his long-standing loyalty and reputation as a reliable friend, which could aid in forming alliances. However, he still harbors resentment towards Tony Vlachos following a perceived betrayal during the Winners at War season.
Will be best as: Faithful
8.
Britney Haynes
From which shows or events might they be recognized: The humorous characters from Big Brother seasons 12 and 14, who raced together with previous Big Brother and Traitors contestant Janelle Pierzina, as well as having a memorable run on the special Big Brother: Reindeer Games.
Pertinent life skills demonstrated: The Arkansas mother skillfully employed her homespun allure and flawless comedic delivery to win over both housemates and viewers alike, particularly during Big Brother 12 where she cleverly befriended four men in a secret alliance, propelling them to the final five before being eliminated unceremoniously. This time around, she aims to avoid a similar fate by adopting a traitorous role, as her cunning move might not be anticipated. However, Danielle Reyes, a former friend turned adversary from Reindeer Games, is also in the competition, and their potential conflict was hinted at during the premiere broadcast on New Year’s Day. It remains uncertain whether Britney will betray Danielle given her apparent remorse over past events on Reindeer Games; nevertheless, such a move could mark the beginning of an intriguing traitor phase for Britney. Should she survive beyond the premiere, she is poised to be the standout character this season, much like Phaedra Parks was in her respective season.
Will be best as: Traitor
9.
Danielle Reyes
From which television show they may be recognized: The second place contestant of Big Brother 3, as well as appearances in Big Brother season 7 and the most recent edition of Big Brother: Reindeer Games during the past winter.
Key abilities: Famous for being an excellent tactician but unfortunate not to win ‘Big Brother’, her elimination was due to jury members disliking her frankness in confessional interviews, which won’t be a problem here as it adds entertainment value. However, the main challenge she might encounter is that the only other ‘Big Brother’ participant in the castle is Britney Haynes, who had expelled Danielle’s trusted partner Daniella from ‘Reindeer Games’. Since Britney is generally well-liked, their conflicts could harm Danielle’s game. If Danielle decides to eliminate Britney early, losing her only potential ally will be difficult to recover from, so she might initially try to stay low-key.
Will be best as: Faithful
10.
Robyn Dixon
Where you might know them from: One of the OG Real Housewives of Potomac.
Meet Robyn from this year – similar to Shereé Whitfield on Bravo, Robyn often shines when teamed up with her friend Gizelle Bryant rather than alone. She’s known for making unexpected votes and not always being in the know. If she can be swayed by her husband’s words, she can be persuaded easily. This ranking doesn’t imply that Robyn will excel at the game, but rather she seems impervious to being eliminated – more like immune to getting “murdered” in a metaphorical sense.
Will be best as: Faithful
11.
Nikki Garcia
You may recognize her as Nikki Bella, a past professional wrestler. She appeared in WWE series such as “Total Divas” and the spinoff show she shared with her twin sister, titled “Total Bellas”.
Practical life abilities: To be clear, I’m not well-versed in professional wrestling or its reality TV spin-offs. However, someone who can withstand physical pain without revealing their true feelings would make a fantastic Traitor. It seems plausible that she could find herself as one of the few females in a male-dominated alliance, much like last year’s co-winner Trishelle Canatella.
Will be best as: Traitor
12.
Bob the Drag Queen
From which shows or context might you be familiar: The victor of the eighth season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and a three-season participant on Max’s “We’re Here”. Also recognized for his popular dance track, “Purse First.
Crucial life abilities in Bob: First off, it’s crucial to note that Bob possesses an exceptional sense of humor, a trait I believe will serve him exceptionally well within the castle environment. He’ll effortlessly forge friendships wherever he goes, and given his history with Eureka O’Hara, it’s clear he knows how to deliver a scathing remark and defend himself when needed. Unlike his companion Peppermint, Bob should be able to navigate past the initial elimination round.
Will be best as: Faithful
13.
Dorinda Medley
As a devoted cinephile, you may recognize her as the quotable queen from “Real Housewives of New York City” and “Ultimate Girls Trip.
Key practical abilities: Dorinda is well-known for two interconnected traits: becoming intoxicated and angry – if you hear, “She’s about to start,” get out of the way quickly! However, before she starts, she is sharp-witted, a strong debater, and loyal to those she supports. Everyone should be a bit wary of her, which could help keep her around unless the Traitors fear her, in which case her time might be limited. But she’s a good friend and ally (she hasn’t betrayed Ramona Singer yet), so if she can rally a group and control her anger, she could last for quite some time.
Will be best as: Faithful
14.
Bob Harper
Where you might know them from: The (nice) trainer and eventual host of The Biggest Loser.
As a cinephile, I’ve always found myself drawn to the emotional journeys of contestants in reality shows. If I were given the chance, I’d be the one offering comforting words and a supportive attitude to help them make it to the final weigh-in. Perhaps what this show needs is someone who can subtly inspire everyone to unmask the Traitors? However, since I haven’t competed in such a show myself, it remains to be seen how I’d mesh with the cast dynamics.
Will be best as: Faithful
15.
Chanel Ayan
Recognizeable context: Sporting extravagant costumes on the currently put-on-hold show, “The Real Housewives of Dubai”.
As someone who prides myself on serving looks that rival Alan Cumming’s, I never compromise when it comes to fashion, even for everyday tasks such as picking up my dry cleaning. My devotion to haute couture might be entertaining, but my temper, propensity for arguments, and belief in always being correct may rub some the wrong way. However, if I can maintain a close bond with the Bravo ladies who seem to appreciate me, I believe I could make it for a while.
Will be best as: Faithful
16.
Lord Ivar Mountbatten
In what context or setting have you encountered him before: But, I don’t recognize him. He is a British nobleman and the second cousin of King Charles III.
Skills relevant to current circumstances: None explicitly mentioned. However, notable is his courage in being the first royal family member to publicly identify as gay and have his ex-wife escort him down the aisle at his second wedding. This bold action could potentially sway voters’ opinions, making him an early focus for potential traitors.
Will be best as: Faithful
17.
Ciara Miller
From which show might they be familiar: A popular character on the Bravo series, “Summer House,” that revolves around parties in the Hamptons.
Practical skills applicable to real life: Ability to endure a prolonged period in a large mansion amidst intense competition for resources – this might resemble shows like “Traitors” or “Summer House”. Ciara has generally been a more reserved and closed-off individual, which served her well in the Hamptons. However, if she comes across as secretive in Scotland, it could raise suspicion among others. Additionally, if her ability to identify traitors is as poor as her track record with romantic partners, she’s in grave danger.
Will be best as: Faithful
18.
Dylan Efron
Originally associated with or introduced through: Having a shared womb with Zac Efron, famously displaying his abs on Instagram.
Skills related to real-life situations for this celeb sibling: To be honest, there isn’t much known about this celebrity brother or sister. Here are two possible scenarios:
1. If the other players perceive them as a potential threat, they may focus their efforts on other players instead, leaving this individual unscathed.
2. Alternatively, the others might band together to eliminate this wild card from the game.
Will be best as: A contestant on Claim to Fame.
19.
Sam Asghari
From where they may be familiar: The former husband of Britney Spears, as well as the rather unflattering New York Times article about them.
Related practical skills: He’s made brief appearances in multiple films and series (even playing a Sexy Santa on Hacks), yet I can’t help but feel we know less about him than the Efron siblings. An enigma, his initial impressions on everyone at the castle will significantly shape his experience.
Will be best as: Faithful
20.
Tony Vlachos
In which context or setting have they become known: They’ve competed in Survivor three times and emerged victorious on two occasions, even claiming victory in the all-winners 40th season. Over to you now, Boston Rob.
Practical abilities in line with real-world situations: Tony’s exceptional talent lies in understanding people, predicting when they might pose a threat, and gathering intelligence on potential adversaries for maximum information. He has a tendency to be flamboyant, which may lead others to suspect him of being untrustworthy due to his background. I have a hunch that his stay here will resemble his time on Survivor: Game Changers, where he was eliminated in the second round because no one could rely on his loyalty.
Will be best as: Traitor
21.
“Boston” Rob Mariano
You might recognize him as a five-time participant on ‘Survivor’, losing four times, but he found his wife, Amber Brkich, during ‘Survivor: All Stars’. So, in a way, that’s like a victory for him. He and Brkich have competed together on ‘The Amazing Race’ twice, and he recently appeared on the first season of ‘Deal or No Deal Island’.
Skills suitable for real-life situations:
Rob exhibits an undeniable charm but often shows his self-assuredness (or overconfidence, as others might say) and his extensive knowledge (or arrogance, depending on the perspective) during his Survivor gameplay. His one victory on Redemption Island even saw him leading a group to the finale, a tactic reminiscent of Peter Weber’s strategy with the “Peter Pals” last season, though it didn’t quite work out for Peter. However, Rob’s involvement in the game is not straightforward, as a pre-season twist hinted at on New Year’s Day suggests he isn’t officially part of the competition yet and can only participate if another contestant is eliminated. I suspect these seasoned reality players will be well aware of this and prevent his inclusion.
Will be best as: Traitor
Wild Cards
As a passionate movie reviewer, I must say, the second season of this gripping series left me on the edge of my seat with Kate Chastain rejoining the game midway, much like a late-arriving knight to a chessboard. The mastermind behind it all, Alan, has never failed to surprise us with unexpected twists and tantalizing tidbits for fans.
The trailer tantalizes us with glimpses of Chastain and Parvati Shallow in regal attire, suggesting they might be part of an intriguing challenge rather than returning winners. But what if the players are given a choice to bring back one? If they’re rooting for a real fan favorite, Phaedra Parks seems to be the clear front-runner.
However, the producers could decide to go against expectations. There have been whispers online about Johnny “Bananas” Devenanzio, last season’s first casualty, making a comeback due to some intriguing comments from the production team.
These possibilities, along with many more we can hardly imagine, have the potential to shake up the game at any moment. Isn’t it this unpredictability that makes ‘The Traitors’ such an exhilarating watch?
