Working on Saturday Night Live is special because each week the cast gets to collaborate with a different celebrity guest. While cast members are often excited to meet these stars, the SNL 50th Anniversary Special brought together an incredible collection of Hollywood’s biggest names – both current and from the show’s history. It was a room full of famous faces! Despite all this, former cast member Leslie Jones playfully miscalled Pedro Pascal, and it would have been amazing to witness that moment.
Meeting the actor from The Mandalorian wasn’t the only unexpected celebrity sighting that evening, but it likely stood out for Pascal. Jones, a former Saturday Night Live cast member, recently told Vulture about meeting the Narcos actor at the SNL50 celebration, and playfully used a curse word while recounting the story.
I kept calling this guy Pablo, but he corrected me – his name is actually Pedro. It was so funny, I just kept saying ‘Pablo’ and he’d say ‘Pedro’ back. I even asked, ‘Who’s Pedro?’ and he told me he was Pedro! Eventually, I started calling him Pedro, though I still think Pablo suits him better. He’s really cute, too.
It’s a shame Kristen Jones and Pedro Pascal weren’t on Saturday Night Live at the same time. Their dynamic would have been perfect for a sketch! Jones left SNL in 2019 after five seasons as a writer and performer, and Pascal didn’t appear as a host until 2023 when he was promoting The Last of Us. Given how well-known Pascal was then—and still is—it’s funny that Jones accidentally called him “Pablo.”

The actor from Materialists has been a standout Saturday Night Live host recently, and I’d love to see him back on the show soon. He’s been in some of the funniest sketches from the last few seasons, including “Lisa from Temecula,” “Protective Mom,” and my personal favorite, “Waking Up.”
The idea for that third sketch is ridiculous, but in a surprisingly funny way. Pascal plays someone who’s just woken up from a coma, doing a valley girl impression, and he’s so good he almost makes everyone else crack up – it reminds me of how often Jones used to do that during her time on the show.
It’s a shame these two funny performers never shared a sketch on the SNL 50th anniversary special – they’d be hilarious together! I’ve been wondering if Leslie Jones might come back to Saturday Night Live as a guest or even host. She’s said she doesn’t miss the show, but maybe working on the special brought back good memories and could lead to a return. If she does come back, I hope she brings Pedro Pascal with her!
Saturday Night Live broadcasts on Saturdays at 11:30 p.m. Eastern Time, and you can watch episodes by subscribing to Peacock.
