Everyone was buzzing the day after the Golden Globe Awards, wondering who Leonardo DiCaprio was playfully interacting with at his table. A short video of the actor chatting animatedly with someone across from him quickly spread online after a New York Times reporter, Kyle Buchanan, shared it with a caption suggesting DiCaprio was unusually lively. Lip readers determined he was jokingly commenting on how the other person reacted to a “K-pop” performance and playfully imitating their behavior. Many online guessed he was referring to the group Kpop Demon Hunters, who had won two awards – Best Original Song and Best Animated Feature – at the Globes.
Teyana Taylor, who worked with Leonardo DiCaprio on One Battle After Another, has shared that he did approach her. She told Access Hollywood that she was quite distracted that day and barely remembers the conversation. She thinks they might have been discussing KPop Demon Hunters – a show her kids loved and she was excitedly celebrating – and that DiCaprio noticed her enthusiasm. However, she admits she was likely just enjoying herself and didn’t really register what he was saying, possibly just laughing and chatting without fully understanding his point. She joked that she probably just smiled and nodded along.
