Leonardo DiCaprio Plays Drug and Booze-Addled Revolutionary in Crazy CinemaCon Footage for PTA’s ‘One Battle After Another’

Leonardo DiCaprio traveled to Las Vegas for the premiere of Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another,” a $130 million adaptation of a Thomas Pynchon novel, which is one of those rare, daring studio investments. This marks the first time DiCaprio and Anderson have worked together; initially, DiCaprio was set to star in Anderson’s breakthrough film “Boogie Nights,” but chose to appear in “Titanic” instead, a decision that led to his subsequent success.

For about two decades, I’ve been eager to collaborate with Paul,” DiCaprio stated. “This movie seems to have struck a nerve, politically and culturally, that resonates deeply within our collective consciousness.

Leonardo DiCaprio pledged that the movie would unfold on a truly monumental level, and director Wes Anderson chose to shoot it in VistaVision for IMAX to achieve this grandeur.

The movie features Leonardo DiCaprio portraying a rugged revolutionist on a mission to save his abducted child. In an unconventional, frequently amusing series of clips shown at CinemaCon by DiCaprio and fellow actors Regina Hall and Teyana Taylor, DiCaprio’s character grapples with recalling the password necessary to summon a band of rebels to his aid.

During a conversation, DiCaprio confessed, ‘I’ve overworked my mind.’ He acknowledged using drugs and drinking alcohol consistently for the past three decades. He referred to himself as someone who is deeply fond of both substances.

However, the voice at the other end of the call appears uncompassionate, informing DiCaprio’s character that he’s acting aggressively, which in turn makes him feel uncomfortable due to his “sound sensitivity.

“This is not the way revolutionaries do shit,” DiCaprio says in frustration.

Under the Title “One Battle After Another,” an Impressive Ensemble Takes Center Stage

Sean Penn joins the cast as the formidable antagonist, a stern-faced colonel who exudes an unsettling presence on screen. Benicio del Toro portrays DiCaprio’s reckless, firearm-wielding confidant. The fresh face of Chase Infiniti completes the cast lineup. Surrounded by mystery, Warner Bros., the production company, only recently unveiled the film’s title a few weeks prior.

The film ‘One Battle After Another’ has garnered significant media attention due to its substantial budget, an amount usually associated with movies featuring superheroes or space battles. This budget surpasses any previous spending on Anderson’s films significantly, even though they are frequently ranked among the greatest films ever made. On the other hand, Leonardo DiCaprio has a remarkable track record at the box office; he’s managed to turn difficult films like ‘The Revenant’ and ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ into unexpected financial successes.

Originally scheduled for release this summer, “One Battle After Another” has now been pushed back to September 26, 2025, by Warner Bros. This new date places the movie within a more favorable timeframe for awards consideration. Interestingly, it will also mark Anderson’s debut in Imax filmmaking.
