Lenovo Legion Go 2 SteamOS Edition Revealed

The handheld gaming PC market is booming, and the Steam Deck has been a favorite, largely because its SteamOS software runs much better on these devices than Windows. Now, that same operating system is coming to Lenovo’s Legion Go 2. While Lenovo recently released the Legion Go S with SteamOS, the Legion Go 2 remains a powerful choice for gamers who want high-end hardware and controllers similar to the Nintendo Switch. Lenovo will begin selling the SteamOS-equipped Legion Go 2 in June, starting at $1,199.

Preorders for the Legion Go 2 aren’t available yet, but keep an eye on Best Buy and Amazon – it should be listed there soon. The Legion Go 2 gives you a lot of power for its price compared to other handheld gaming PCs. The higher-end version includes a powerful AMD Z2 Extreme chip, 32GB of fast DDR5 RAM, a spacious 1TB solid-state drive, and a long-lasting 74Wh battery. The standard model has an AMD Z2 chip, 16GB of RAM, a 1TB SSD, and the same battery.

Both devices feature a fantastic 8.8-inch PureSight OLED screen – one of the best available on a portable gaming console. With a fast 144Hz refresh rate and VRR technology, games appear incredibly smooth and visually stunning. Plus, the detachable TrueStrike controllers offer versatility, letting you play in handheld mode, on a tabletop, connected to a TV like a console, or even in an FPS-style setup.

SteamOS provides a faster and more efficient experience, but it limits you to games purchased through Steam. Windows 11 handhelds, like the Legion Go, let you use multiple game stores. You can still buy a Windows 11 Legion Go 2 from Best Buy, even though Windows isn’t ideal on a small screen. Alternatively, the smaller Legion Go S offers a $100 discount if you’re willing to accept slightly less powerful hardware.
