At this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2025 in Las Vegas, Valve was present, teaming up with global tech giant Lenovo for a significant announcement. During their joint presentation, Lenovo showcased an upcoming handheld device, the Legion Go S, enabling Valve to reveal SteamOS, making it the first third-party device outside of Valve to support this software.
Based on an official statement from Valve dated January 7th, 2025, the Lenovo Legion Go S will be the initial handheld device authorized by Valve and equipped with their operating system, SteamOS. At this moment, Lenovo has not specified a release date for the Lenovo Legion Go S portable device, but it is anticipated to arrive at stores sometime in 2025.

At Lenovo’s CES 2025 event, it was announced that the Lenovo Legion Go S is the first handheld device officially endorsed by SteamOS. According to Valve’s official announcement, this operating system has been designed to deliver a smooth gaming experience while still offering the versatility and power of a PC.
The Valve team has been focusing on developing new updates tailored for an upcoming portable device. Their goal is to deliver a consistent, high-quality experience similar to the Steam Deck for players. Furthermore, they plan to release significant upgrades for SteamOS that will be compatible with the Lenovo Legion Go S – Powered by SteamOS. These improvements aim to enhance the device’s compatibility with other portable devices as well.
Regarding the timing of updates for the SteamOS, Valve shared that they will send out a beta version before the upcoming launch of Legion Go S – Powered by SteamOS. This allows players to test it and anticipate further support in future releases. The Legion Go S – Powered by SteamOS is equipped with features such as cloud saves, Remote Play, access to a fully functional Steam Store, and Library, making it a significant stride towards offering gamers more freedom of choice for an operating system tailored for handheld gaming.
