Turning popular franchises into LEGO sets could be difficult, but the developers consistently demonstrate a strong understanding of what fans love about the original source material, ensuring successful adaptations.
I’ve always found LEGO games based on my favorite franchises incredibly funny. They have a knack for playfully teasing the original stories while also bringing a fresh, lighthearted energy to them.
10. LEGO Lord Of The Rings
Voice Lines Direct From The Film Bring Middle Earth To Life

It’s surprising how well this LEGO game works, especially since it uses audio directly from the movies. But it manages to feel new and adds a lot of humor to the classic story of Frodo and the Fellowship, all while still capturing the vastness of Middle-earth.
As a big fan of Lord of the Rings, I’m always fascinated by the world Tolkien created. This game is special because it lets you freely explore all those iconic locations, and it’s packed with fun references – even a playful nod to Peter Jackson’s Oscars! The game also includes a wide range of characters, even those left out of the movies, like Tom Bombadil. It’s clear the developers deeply understand the source material, making this a fantastic adaptation that’s incredibly fun and offers tons of replay value.
9. LEGO Jurassic World
A Cinematic Treasure Made A Rare Reality
Many video games have tried to capture the world of Jurassic Park. The dinosaurs, island settings, and iconic music naturally appeal to players. However, most games haven’t followed the original stories closely, instead simply adding dinosaurs to existing gameplay. LEGO Jurassic World took a different approach, blending its signature humor and a clear appreciation for the franchise to let players enjoy the adventure at their own pace.
While this LEGO game doesn’t have as many characters as some others, the island levels are beautifully designed, drawing from the first four movies. What really stands out is how well the game captures the spirit of the films – it’s a better adaptation than most Jurassic Park or World games I’ve played. It’s great to see, especially considering how many movie-based games fall short.
8. LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7
Keeping Things Fresh With The Sequel
I have to admit, the later Harry Potter stories and movies got a bit darker, but LEGO really nailed capturing that feel when they recreated places like Hogwarts. What I loved about the second LEGO Harry Potter game is that it didn’t just retread old ground. It actually let you grow with Harry! You got to experience new spells and challenges, and it genuinely felt like we were heading into our final years at Hogwarts alongside him. It wasn’t just the same stuff all over again, it actually moved the gameplay forward.
The original spells from the first game became less powerful, which was a clever way to make the second game feel fresh and complete, even though it took place in familiar locations. This level of understanding could only come from true fans of the series, who’ve truly captured what makes it special. Unlike Hogwarts Legacy, which only showed one year at the castle and took place long before Harry Potter’s time, this game offered a full, multi-year experience as a student learning magic.
7. LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga
The Original Grand Compilation Of Space Adventure
The LEGO Star Wars games are arguably the most popular and replayable of all LEGO video games – at least for me! This specific release was special because it combined content from all the previous LEGO Star Wars games into one package. It allowed fans an incredible level of access to the Star Wars universe, more than any other game had before. What really stood out was how it bridged generations – it was a complete enough version of the entire franchise that I could enjoy playing it with my dad, finding a rare game we both loved.
This release was a huge success thanks to its diverse range of vehicles and characters, and its funny takes on classic scenes. Combining two of the first LEGO video games ever made, it really understood what fans loved about LEGO – something many other adaptations miss. While newer games have come out since, this collection still stands out as a prime example of how well LEGO can connect with its audience.
6. LEGO DC Super-Villains
Honouring An Incredible Rogues Gallery
One way to really excite fans is by letting them play as a wide variety of characters. As a big DC Comics enthusiast, I’m thrilled by the possibility of controlling characters like the Joker or Kite Man – and this game offers a huge selection of DC’s quirky villains to choose from.
The concept of turning DC’s villains into reluctant heroes, teaming up to defend Earth from an alien invasion, was brilliant. It cleverly tapped into DC Comics history, allowing for a huge roster of popular villains to appear. This approach made for one of the most surprising and fun LEGO game experiences to date. As a DC fan, I really appreciated how faithfully it honored the source material. Levels like ‘Darkseid of the Moon’ featured some of the best boss battles the LEGO series has ever offered, and the game explored exciting concepts – like the Anti-Life Equation – that aren’t often seen in DC adaptations.
5. LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures
A Rare Chance To Handle The Whip
This LEGO game was my first, and it’s still one of my favorites on the Nintendo DS. It really captured the adventurous spirit of the Indiana Jones films, with simple-to-understand abilities like using whips and shovels, and charming character designs – all hallmarks of LEGO games. Playing as Indiana Jones and his friends, exploring iconic locations, battling enemies in action-packed scenes, and driving through thrilling chases was a truly inspiring experience for fans.
These three popular movies were perfectly reimagined in this new adaptation. The music, humorous takes on familiar scenes, and detailed exploration of the characters’ adventurous worlds all worked together to create fresh excitement for a new audience.
4. LEGO Batman 2: DC Superheroes
Bringing A Huge Universe Of Heroes To Life
LEGO and comic books are a natural fit, and DC Comics especially lends itself well to LEGO games. Because DC stories often involve team-ups and crossovers, fans expect to see a wide range of characters. That’s why the second LEGO Batman game went beyond just Batman, featuring over 60 heroes and villains from across the DC Universe – a move that delighted comic book fans.
Okay, so this game really went all-out! I mean, they had everyone – from Alfred to Zatanna – and the whole Justice League was involved in the story. It was wild seeing Lex Luthor and the Joker team up, plus tons of other villains showed up. It was such a cool way to bring the comic book world to life with LEGOs that they ended up making a whole LEGO Batman movie later on, bringing back a lot of the same characters and that same awesome vibe.
3. LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4
The Ultimate Childhood Dream Come True
While the second LEGO Harry Potter game was well-made, the first one truly captured the magic of Hogwarts. It perfectly recreated the wonder of the early Harry Potter books and included so many beloved characters, making fans feel completely immersed. As a lifelong Harry Potter enthusiast – I even dressed up as Harry and waited in line for new books as a kid – this game finally let me explore Hogwarts freely. Learning spells in class and going on exciting adventures were exactly what made us all wish for our own acceptance letter as children.
As a huge fan, I was completely blown away by how much stuff there was to do! Seriously, so many characters to unlock and hidden collectibles all over the castle and beyond. It’s still one of the best LEGO Harry Potter games ever made when it comes to really feeling like you’re in the Wizarding World.
2. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga
A Huge World, A Galaxy Of Adventure
Recent LEGO games have evolved into bigger, more ambitious experiences to appeal to today’s gamers. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is the most expansive LEGO game yet, and its open-world design has been a huge hit with players. For the first time, it lets you explore the Star Wars universe on a massive scale, with 24 different planets to discover.

Okay, as a Star Wars and LEGO fan, this game, The Skywalker Saga, is seriously blowing my mind! They packed in over 400 characters – it’s insane! I’ve never had so much choice in a LEGO game, and there’s just so much to unlock and play as. Honestly, compared to other Star Wars games, this feels HUGE. Finally having all nine saga films in one game, and with these big, open worlds? It really shows how much love and effort went into making something special for Star Wars fans like me.
1. LEGO Marvel Super Heroes
The Ultimate Fan Dream Of Uniting The Universe
Launching a large-scale LEGO Marvel game in 2013, right after the huge success of the first Avengers movie, was a brilliant move by the LEGO team. With excitement around the Marvel Cinematic Universe at its peak, the game offered a thrilling and unique adventure where heroes collected pieces of the Silver Surfer’s board – cleverly called ‘cosmic bricks’ – creating a separate experience from the films that fans loved.
Beyond just being fun, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes featured a huge roster of Marvel characters, including many that Marvel Studios couldn’t use in their own movies. This gave fans exactly what they wanted! It’s still considered one of the best LEGO games ever made, boasting an impressive collection of Marvel heroes and villains. Interestingly, the game’s story and character interactions now feel even more relevant, potentially foreshadowing events in future Avengers movies.
