Season 4 of The Legend of Vox Machina picks up some time after the events of the previous seasons. The animated series, available on Prime Video, is based on the original Dungeons & Dragons campaign played by the voice actors who also star in the show. Set in the fantasy world of Exandria, the story follows a group of heroes as they work together to protect their land from dangerous threats.
Critical Role’s animated series, The Legend of Vox Machina, has been released yearly, with a planned break in 2025 for the new series, The Mighty Nein. Prime Video has announced that season four of The Legend of Vox Machina will premiere on June 3, 2026, with three new episodes released each week.
The studio also released a new trailer and summary for the upcoming season of The Legend of Vox Machina. A key detail is that the story will pick up a year after the Chroma Conclave. This season, the heroes, who were once a tight-knit group, will be scattered but will eventually come together to face a powerful enemy. The first trailer hinted at this villain – the legendary Whispered One, also known as Vecna.
Season Four picks up a year after the events of the Chroma Conclave. The members of Vox Machina have gone their separate ways, each seeking love, family, and a new sense of direction. However, their peaceful pursuits are interrupted when an ancient evil rises, forcing them to come together and face a massive threat.
Viewers familiar with the Critical Role campaign won’t be shocked by this time jump. The first campaign already had a one-year gap between episodes 94 and 95, happening right after the defeat of the Chroma Conclave. The new Amazon TV series will do the same thing, giving the characters a year of rest and recovery after that storyline.
At the end of Season 3 of The Legend of Vox Machina, it looked like the heroes were heading their separate ways. After Percy was brought back to life, he and Vex stayed in Whitestone to work on their relationship. Vax and Keyleth, the other couple in the group, started their own journey, though Vax was keeping a big secret from everyone. Grog and Pike continued to be a powerful team, and Scanlan focused on reconnecting with his daughter, Kaylie.
Featuring the voices and creative direction of Matthew Mercer, Marisha Ray, Ashley Johnson, Taliesin Jaffe, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, Sam Riegel, and Liam O’Brien, The Legend of Vox Machina is animated by Titmouse. The show’s fourth season is the next-to-last, leading into a fifth and final season.
What Happens During The Legend of Vox Machina’s Time Jump?

The show is likely to jump forward in time soon. With the characters currently pursuing separate storylines, it makes sense to fast-forward to when they reunite to face the danger posed by the Whispered One, as that would be more engaging for viewers.
As hinted in the summary, each character will spend their time off searching for “love, family, and purpose.” However, similar to the original story, we’ll probably learn more about what they did during the time jump when Season 4 comes back.
At the start of the latest Critical Role campaign, fans quickly learned what each character had been doing during the past year. Grog sought out brawls, Pike focused on her training, Vex took on a role as an ambassador, Vax and Keyleth deepened their connection, Percy founded the Chamber of Whitestone, and Scanlan was missing. Even though they were often apart, the group did manage to reunite for several side quests and adventures, and surprisingly, some of them even collaborated to open a bakery.
Since the animated series has altered some details from the original story of Campaign 1, we might see the characters experience different events when time jumps forward. This could be a good way to introduce Taryon Darrington, an important character from the Vox Machina group who will appear in Season 4, and will be voiced by Wayne Brady. Regardless, the show will likely explain the time jump early in Season 4, as it continues to adapt the long ‘Whispered One’ storyline over the final two seasons.
