‘Legally Blonde’ Prequel Series Casts Lexi Minetree as Young Elle Woods

The “Legally Blonde” prequel series at Amazon Prime Video has found its young Elle Woods.

Lexi Minetree has been chosen as the main character for the series titled “Elle,” a story that delves into Woods’ life during her time at high school prior to attending Harvard.

Reese Witherspoon, who famously played Elle Woods, shared the casting news on Instagram with the caption: “Meet the new Elle Woods!” After sifting through numerous impressive auditions for the upcoming Elle prequel series on Amazon Prime Video, we’ve found our perfect fit. The tagline for the show is, “We delve into Elle Woods’ high school years, uncovering the formative events that molded her into the beloved character from the initial ‘Legally Blonde’ movie.

minetree is set to make her debut as a lead actor in a television series, marking a significant milestone in her career. Prior to this, she has made appearances on shows such as “Law & Order: SVU” and starred in TV movies including “The Murdaugh Murders,” “Crowdsource Murder,” and “The Paramedic Who Stalked Me.

She is repped by Stewart Talent and Luber Roklin.

The series titled “Elle” was initially given the go-ahead by Amazon back in May 2024. Laura Kittrell developed the show and shares duties as co-showrunner and executive producer alongside Caroline Dries. Witherspoon, Lauren Neustadter, and Lauren Kisilevsky serve as executive producers through Hello Sunshine, with Marc Platt also contributing. Amazon MGM Studios will handle production.

The original “Legally Blonde” movie was a massive hit at the box office, earning over $140 million globally after its premiere in 2001. Its sequel, “Legally Blonde 2: Red, White, and Blonde,” followed in 2003. A third film, also direct-to-video, was released in 2009, but Witherspoon did not appear on screen; she only served as a producer for the project. In 2007, a stage musical adapted from the first movie made its debut on Broadway and garnered several Tony and Drama Desk nominations.
