Laurence Fishburne still hopes to portray a popular X-Men character in the future, despite Marvel’s existing plans for the franchise.
I’m really excited to hear about the new X-Men movie Jake Schreier is directing! It sounds like it won’t be coming out until after Avengers: Secret Wars in late 2027, which feels like a long wait, but good things come to those who wait. I was surprised to learn that Laurence Fishburne, who was great as Bill Foster in Ant-Man and the Wasp, would be interested in playing Professor X if they reboot the franchise. Honestly, I think he’d be amazing in the role, and I’d absolutely love to see him take it on if they start fresh with the X-Men!
In a recent interview with ScreenRant, he explained that he’s a huge Marvel Comics and MCU fan. He said that, at this point in his career, he’d be thrilled to play Professor X if he had the chance to appear in another Marvel film.
I was really excited to hear Laurence Fishburne talk about his love for comics! He told ComicBook.com that he’s been reading them since he was a little kid growing up in New York, and you can tell how much certain characters and stories mean to him. It’s awesome to see someone with his talent connect with the medium on such a personal level.
Growing up in the city, I was really inspired by the writers and artists creating work around me. As a kid, I often wished I could have played some of the Marvel characters I connected with. But I’m incredibly happy with how the Marvel movies have been cast and developed – I’m a big fan of them all.
Laurence Fishburne has expressed interest in playing Professor X before. At New York Comic Con on October 12th, the actor mentioned he’d be excited to take on the role, following in the footsteps of Sir Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy, if given the opportunity.
‘X-Men’ Stars Will Return for New ‘Avengers’ Film
20th Century Fox
Good news for fans of the X-Men movies made by 20th Century Fox! Several of the original actors are joining Avengers: Doomsday. Patrick Stewart will be back as Professor X, and Ian McKellen will reprise his role as Magneto. Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), James Marsden (Cyclops), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), and Kelsey Grammar (Beast) are also confirmed to return.
In addition to the returning actors, Channing Tatum, known for his role as Gambit in Deadpool and Wolverine, will be joining the cast. Tatum was originally cast as the card-playing mutant back in 2014, and a solo movie for his character was in the works for years. However, the project was canceled when Disney bought 20th Century Fox. After a decade, Tatum finally got to play Gambit—and he said he’ll always be grateful to Ryan Reynolds for making it happen.
I truly believed I’d lost Gambit for good. But he really came through for me, and I don’t know how I could ever repay him for what it means to me. I care about him a lot…and I guess everything happens for a reason.
