On a recent Monday, Laura Dern posted an emotional birthday tribute on Instagram for her longtime partner in creativity, David Lynch, just four days following the announcement of his passing.

Ever since casting Dern in “Blue Velvet” when she was just 17, Lynch fondly refers to her as “Tidbit.” In 2019, they both presented him with his Academy Honorary Award, along with Kyle MacLachlan, who is affectionately known as “Kale.
Throughout our whole professional journey working with him, the nicknames he gave us have become permanent,” Dern expressed later on. “Everyone who collaborates with David experiences an electric energy. It’s his infectious enthusiasm and passion that he brings to the set, making you feel like you’re fulfilling your true purpose.
Isabella Rossellini was one of David Lynch’s key inspirations and frequent collaborators. Her acting career took off following her supporting role in his 1986 mystery-thriller “Blue Velvet” as Sandy Williams, a detective’s daughter who gets entangled in an investigation involving a severed ear. After that, they worked together again on “Wild at Heart” (1990), where Rossellini played Lula Pace Fortune opposite Nicolas Cage; she was a character fleeing from her mother after she hired criminals to eliminate her boyfriend Sailor. She starred in Lynch’s final film, “Inland Empire” (2006), as an actress who starts living the role she’s playing in a movie in real life. Rossellini also appeared in “Twin Peaks: The Return” in 2017, portraying Diane Evans, a character not previously seen before.
MacLachlan expressed gratitude towards Lynch following his passing, posting on Instagram: “I credit my entire career, indeed my life, to his unique vision. In him, I saw a man who was both mysterious and intuitive, with an endless creative wellspring. He tapped into something that the rest of us aspire to connect with.
