Okay, so imagine if Tony Hawk, back when he was at his absolute best, made a deal with the devil… that’s kind of the vibe of this awesome indie game called Skate Story! You literally fight demons by pulling off sick skateboard tricks, and honestly, everyone who’s played it seems to be loving it. It just came out yesterday on PC, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch, and I’m super excited to check it out!
Skate Story ratings
This game follows a demon given a bizarre task by the devil: to earn his freedom, he must catch and swallow the moon! To do so, he’ll journey through the nine circles of hell, battling dark creatures and aiding lost spirits – and he’ll do it all on a skateboard. Throughout his adventure, this fragile, glass-and-pain-born character will learn more than 70 tricks, from simple ollies to impressive 360 flips.
Players seem to really enjoy the game’s unique style and simple graphics. On Steam, it has over 280 reviews, earning it an “overwhelmingly positive” rating – with 98% of players giving it a thumbs up. It’s also been rated by almost 1,000 people on the PlayStation Store, averaging 4.28 out of 5 stars. Review scores on Metacritic confirm the game’s quality: 88/100 for the PC version, 80/100 for PS5, and 84/100 for Nintendo Switch. This is a significant achievement for independent developer Sam Eng, with support from publisher Devolver Digital.
You can buy Skate Story on Steam, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 5 for $19.99. A demo is available on Steam, and PlayStation Plus members can play it on PS5 for free.
