Last Samurai Standing is a hit on Netflix right now, and the people who made the show are already planning more seasons.
Junichi Okada, the star, producer, and action choreographer of Last Samurai Standing, compares the show to a blend of the popular series Squid Game and Shōgun. This explains why it’s become so popular with viewers around the globe.
I’m really excited about this new show! It’s based on a historical fiction novel called Ikusagami that came out in 2022, and it was also turned into a manga that a lot of people loved. Basically, it’s about 292 samurai battling it out in a tournament, and the winner gets a huge prize – 100,000 yen!
Jun Okada stars as Shujiro Saga, a man competing to provide for his wife and child while a cholera epidemic spreads. Both Okada and the show’s creator, Michihito Fujii, have suggested there might be more to the story down the line.
Michihito Fujii wants “two or three seasons” of Last Samurai Standing

Okay, so Last Samurai Standing is blowing up on Netflix, and everyone’s wondering if we’ll get more seasons. I read an interview with the creator, Michihito Fujii, and he told Forbes he’s hoping for two or three seasons total. Fingers crossed, because I’m really enjoying it!
He explained that while he generally aims for continuity, gaps between seasons can be lengthy. Since people often forget details over time, he makes an effort to include enough information within each season so viewers can follow the story, even if it’s been a while since the last one. He really wants to pack as much as possible into each season.
“If we could conclude the whole story with another season, I think that’s our mission.”
Expect superpowers in Season 2

So, I’ve been reading about what might be in Season 2, and apparently the characters in the original story have superpowers. The actor Junichi Okada thinks the show could totally go that route too, which would be awesome!
According to Okada, the story originally began as a novel, which was then adapted into a manga. In the initial version, the characters all possess unique abilities, he told The Hollywood Reporter.
Our show’s first season won’t feature superpowers. However, if it’s a hit and we get a second season, we might explore adding them then.
Okada explained that they might explore supernatural abilities further, building on the spiritual ritual dance – the kagura – they introduced in the first season. He suggested this could open the door to introducing ‘divine power’ into the story.
