Lara Trump, the wife of President Donald Trump’s son, is set to debut a weekend prime-time talk show on Fox News Channel. This move places Fox in an uncommon scenario, as they will feature a primetime opinion host with close ties to a current President as part of their programming lineup.
Suzanne Scott, CEO of Fox News Media, referred to Trump as an “effective communicator who has a knack for resonating with viewers,” praised him as a “successful businessperson” and a “working mom.” She also highlighted Lara’s deep comprehension of the American public and current political climate, stating that her insights would make a captivating enhancement to their weekend programming.
It could also be a complicated one.
Media outlets such as CNN and MSNBC have had instances where they needed to adjust their coverage due to anchors having politically affiliated family members. For instance, at MSNBC in 2023, Alicia Melendez stepped away from covering her father, Senator Bob Melendez, who was indicted on criminal charges for misuse of power. Similarly, CNN faced criticism in 2021 when Chris Cuomo, the brother of former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, was discovered to have provided assistance to his sibling amid allegations of sexual abuse.
