‘Lanterns’: HBO’s DC Studios Series Casts Ulrich Thomsen as Sinestro

The upcoming HBO series “Lanterns” has cast a major DC villain.

Ulrich Thomsen has been verified to be part of the Green Lanterns series, taking on a recurring role as Sinestro. He will share screen time with established stars Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre, along with Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, and Poorna Jagannathan in this production.

According to the given synopsis, this series focuses on characters John Stewart (played by Aaron Pierre) and Hal Jordan (portrayed by Kyle Chandler), who are both space police officers. Their lives become entangled with a sinister mystery based on Earth when they are tasked with investigating a murder in the heartland of America.

Sinestro is a well-established character within the Green Lantern universe. Originally, he was part of the Green Lantern Corps but was expelled due to misusing his authority. He first appeared in comic books back in 1961. Actors like Mark Strong, who played him in the 2011 “Green Lantern” movie, and several voice actors in different animated productions over time have portrayed Sinestro.

Sinestro, once a Green Lantern but now renegade, exhibits a ruthless yet irresistible charm. His cunning manipulation is the fuel behind his persistent fascination with his former apprentice, Hal Jordan.

Thomas has predominantly featured in Danish productions throughout his career, yet he’s also made appearances in American television series such as “Banshee” on Cinemax, and has been seen in others like “The Blacklist,” “Counterpart,” and “The New Pope.” In cinema, his American roles span from James Bond films, specifically “The World Is Not Enough,” to “The International.” Additionally, he’s renowned for his role in the Danish film “Festen” (“The Celebration”).
