Lanterns fan theory predicts grim fate for two Green Lanterns

Now that the trailer for the ‘Lanterns’ series is out, viewers are carefully analyzing it for hints about the story. Some fans are worried that the trailer implies the characters Green Lanterns Hal Jordan and Guy Gardner might die.

James Gunn’s new DC Universe featured the Green Lantern Corps in the movie Superman, with Guy Gardner making an appearance. Actor Nathan Fillion played Gardner, and his character was known for his humorous bad haircut and grumpy personality, providing much of the film’s comedy.

This summer, HBO will premiere a new ‘Green Lantern’ TV series. The show will feature veteran Green Lantern Hal Jordan, played by Kyle Chandler, alongside newcomer John Stewart, portrayed by Aaron Pierre.

The initial preview of the show has received criticism for resembling crime dramas like True Detective and Yellowstone more than a typical superhero series. Additionally, a couple of lines of dialogue have concerned dedicated Green Lantern fans.

Fans fear Hal Jordan and Guy Gardner will die in Lanterns

The first hint that something might be wrong comes when Hal Jordan declares, “This is my job. As long as I’m alive, that won’t change.” If he’s training John Stewart to possibly take over as Green Lantern, this statement could be a sign that Hal knows his time is limited and John will need to protect Earth in his place.

“He’s as good as dead,” writes on fan on Reddit, before adding: “still hyped though.”

The show jumps between different time periods. Are the scenes with Hal Jordan happening before his death, then?

A recent line of dialogue has sparked discussion among fans, with many wondering if a character is truly gone. One fan wrote, “I don’t think he’ll be completely dead.” They believe the character might be presumed dead, but that killing them off completely would be a waste, considering the potential for actors like Kyle Chandler to portray significant roles like Parallax, the Spectre, or even Black Hand in the DC Universe. They suggest there’s still a lot of story potential if the character is simply believed to be dead.

Someone else disagreed, suggesting Hal Jordan has a larger role to play than simply dying. They pointed out that Josh Brolin was initially considered for the part, and believe this indicates Kyle Chandler will likely return as a significant villain in a future team-up movie.

A confusing moment arises when Hal claims to be “the only human” among the Green Lanterns.

We generally assume Guy Gardner from the DC Universe is alive, and we know he’s planned to appear in the Lanterns series. So, does Hal Jordan’s statement imply that Guy Gardner has died?

According to ScreenRant, Hal’s statement suggests very bad news for Guy.

It’s probably not going to happen that the show will kill off two popular Green Lantern characters. It’s more likely the story is jumping between different time periods, with Hal Jordan explaining his situation before Guy Gardner becomes a Green Lantern.
