Landman Season 2: Taylor Sheridan’s Grittiest Western Yet Returns to Paramount+

I’m really excited for Taylor Sheridan’s Landman to return! It’s easy to get lost in all the Yellowstone universe expansions, but I have a feeling this one will be something special. It feels like his most raw and realistic Western yet, and honestly, I think it could be the project that truly cements his place as a master of the genre. I’m anticipating it will be even better than anything we’ve seen from him so far.

When Landman premiered on Paramount+ in November 2024, critics generally liked it, though it took viewers a little while to get into. While the first season wasn’t perfect, it showed promise and could become one of the top modern Western shows on TV.

Billy Bob Thornton delivers a powerful performance in this Texas-set drama about the oil industry, and it stands out from other Westerns by Taylor Sheridan. While there’s a lot of buzz about the five Yellowstone spinoffs currently in the works, Landman is the show that truly deserves our attention.

Landman Season 2 Drops On Paramount+ This Month

Emerson Miller/Paramount+

Season 2 of Landman returns to Paramount+ on Sunday, November 16th, with new episodes released weekly through January 18th. The new season begins right after the dramatic ending of Season 1, where Tommy Norris was rescued by a cartel boss, played by Andy Garcia, leaving viewers with a lot of unanswered questions.

Okay, so I’m really excited for season two of Landman! They’re adding some new faces, and get this – Sam Elliott is joining the cast as Tommy Norris’s dad! It’s awesome that Taylor Sheridan is writing every episode again, just like he did for season one. He really gets that world, you know?

This Season Of Landman Could Be Even Better Than Yellowstone

The upcoming season of Landman looks even more promising now that we’ve seen the trailer! It gives us a glimpse of Sam Elliott’s character, who appears as tough as ever, but also seems to be having difficulties with his son. Considering Billy Bob Thornton is also starring, fans have a lot to look forward to.

This season of Landman will finally expose the darker side of Jon Hamm’s character, Monty Miller. However, the show will deservedly shift its attention to Monty’s wife, Cami, played by Demi Moore. With such a talented cast, this season has the potential to be even better than the strongest episodes of Yellowstone.

It’s also worth noting how focused Taylor Sheridan seems to be on Landman right now. He’s already handed over writing and showrunning duties for Yellowstone spin-offs like Y: Marshals and The Dutton Ranch to others, and he’s taking a less active role in the third season of Tulsa King. It’s clear that Landman is his current priority.

Landman Has The Potential To Be Taylor Sheridan’s Best Neo-Western Show

While the first season of Landman received a 78% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Taylor Sheridan’s shows often improve with their second season. For example, the first season of Yellowstone only had a 58% positive rating, but that number increased to 89% in season 2.

Season Yellowstone RT Score Landman RT Score
Season 1 58% 78%
Season 2 89% TBC
Season 3 100%
Season 4 91%
Season 5 79%

Everything suggests that Landman‘s second season will be just as successful as its first. If that happens, many will consider it Taylor Sheridan’s best Western-style TV show yet. It might be time for Yellowstone and John Dutton to step back, as Tommy Norris is quickly becoming the standout figure.
