Landman Season 2, Episode 9 Review: Cami Fires Tommy as M-Tex President

Be warned, this article contains spoilers for Season 2, Episode 9 of Landman. The episode before the finale finally showed the fallout from events viewers anticipated for weeks. In Landman Season 2, Episode 9, Cami and Gallino continued pushing forward with their plan to repair the offshore natural gas rig. Much of the cast traveled to Louisiana for a launch party, and during the event, Cami took action on a plan she’d been developing for several weeks.

Throughout the season, tension has been building at M-Tex. Cami is determined to honor Monty’s memory and believes a risky investment in the offshore gas rig is the way to do it, but Tommy, Rebecca, and the rest of the team favored a more cautious approach. As the company’s principal owner, Cami got her way, and now that her plan is underway, she’s lashing out at those who disagreed with her.

After weeks of frustration, Cami finally removed Tommy from his position as president of M-Tex in season 2, episode 9 of Landman. She explained that the leader of M-Tex needed to embrace the risk and gambling inherent in the oil industry to be successful. This decision wasn’t sudden; Tommy struggled with the demands of the presidency, and it was hindering his ability to focus on his work as a landman.

It’s clear why Cami fired Tommy, but his future role at M-Tex is uncertain. She only removed him from his executive position, and it’s unknown if he’s still employed by the company overall. It seems he’s no longer president, but will continue working as a landman and the vice president of operations. Although Cami may disagree with Tommy’s approach to gambling, she still relies on him to manage the day-to-day operations of M-Tex.

It’s possible Cami completely fired Tommy. He’s said she views him as a failure because he lost his money in the 2008 financial crisis, unlike Monty who managed to succeed. With Cami becoming more confident and enjoying the risks of the business, she might not want Tommy involved with M-Tex anymore. Whether or not Tommy still has a job remains to be seen.

What Tommy Getting Fired Means For Landman

Cami’s decision to fire Tommy will likely have big consequences for the show Landman. If Tommy continues to work as M-Tex’s landman, this change could create tension in his relationship with Angela. Angela had planned to move to Fort Worth to be closer to her daughter, Ainsley, who attends TCU, but if Tommy is required to work full-time as a landman again, he’ll need to stay in Midland. This could frustrate Angela and potentially hinder their efforts to rebuild their relationship.

If Tommy was truly fired from M-Tex, it could cause big problems for Landman. Cooper just regained his position there, and without Tommy, he might lose his job again. Furthermore, Angela is used to a lavish lifestyle, and Tommy’s regular salary might not be enough to maintain it, potentially creating tension in their relationship. Plus, the physical therapy sessions TL has been getting would likely have to stop.

However, it’s possible none of these issues will surface because of Gallino. He cares about Tommy, respects him as an opponent, and they have a past connection. Gallino also has information he could use against both Tommy and Cooper, and he’s previously offered Tommy work. If Cami truly fired Tommy, Gallino might even hire him to lead his future oil investments.

Cami’s decision to fire Tommy will definitely impact the show Landman, though it’s unclear exactly how. It could seriously hinder the Norris family’s efforts to reconcile, or it could make Tommy even more vulnerable to Gallino and the cartel. Either way, Tommy losing his job as president of M-Tex will likely lead to a difficult outcome in the season 2 finale of Landman.
