Kyouran Makaism launches for Switch 1&2 and PlayStation 5 in Japan on January 29, 2026

Nippon Ichi Software announced Kyouran Makaism, a brand new action RPG. The game will launch in Japan on January 29, 2026, for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5.

The game formerly known as Kyouran has been fully unveiled. It features a team of developers with experience on the Disgaea series, including character designer Takehito Harada and composer Tenpei Sato. Shunsuke Minowa, who worked on Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless, is leading the project’s development.

We’ve gathered details from the official Japanese website following the reveal trailer. A playable demo will be available at the Sega and Atlus booth during Tokyo Game Show 2025. Since the announcement is very recent, even in Japan, it’s currently unknown when NIS America will announce an English version of the game.

Main Characters

N.A., voiced by Takuya Eguchi, is a highly capable mercenary proficient with both weapons and magic. Despite his combat skills, he lacks any real purpose, fighting simply to survive. Having no family and being completely isolated, he’s also somewhat aloof and struggles to understand concepts like friendship and love.

Tisiel, voiced by Aoi Koga in the Japanese version, is the newly appointed Demon Queen. She recently took the throne after her father’s passing and was also responsible for summoning N.A., a close friend of her father, to this world.

Gameplay Systems

Players will explore battlefields and defeat hordes of enemies using a variety of weapons, including swords, bows, and spears. Each of the seven weapon types features up to four unique Special Techniques, which are both visually impressive and incredibly effective. These techniques offer diverse combat options, from broad, sweeping attacks to precisely timed counters.

Some of the actions that will be available in the game are as follows:

  • Small Attack – Quick attacks that can connect to a combo when the button is pressed repeatedly.
  • Strong Attack – High-powered attacks that vary based on the weapon, ranging from combo-based to holding charges.
  • Step – Evade by moving quickly towards the intended movement direction. Player’s attacks can also be canceled this way.
  • Guard – Block enemy attacks while also preventing damage-caused flinches and blowaways.
  • Jump – During a jump, the player can also perform Attacks and Step Evasions.
