Kylo Ren is Pushed to Become the New Darth Vader In This Exclusive Preview

As a longtime Star Wars fan, I’ve always loved how the comics fill in the gaps between the movies. It’s been really cool watching the comic book storylines evolve over the years. When Marvel got the license back in 2014, they started with stories set right after A New Hope, exploring what happened before The Empire Strikes Back. Then they moved on to fill in the time between Empire and Return of the Jedi. Now, the main comic books take place after Return of the Jedi, which is awesome because it expands the universe in a whole new way.

KYLO REN IN THE PITS OF MUSTAFAR!

• As VANEÉ’S unhinged plans come together, KYLO REN is put to the ultimate test!

The story of Darth Vader and Kylo Ren comes together powerfully when Kylo is forced to wear his grandfather’s helmet.

• Can Kylo survive the deadly depths of VADER’S CASTLE?

32 PGS./Rated T …$3.99

The preview pages clearly show the flaw in Kylo Ren’s fixation on Darth Vader. He’s been trying to find his own identity through Vader’s history, but it’s become clear – as he’s captured by Vaneé – that you can’t let someone else’s legacy define you.

Vaneé served Darth Vader and, much like Kylo Ren’s obsession with finishing what his grandfather started, Vaneé is fixated on restoring Vader himself. Though he’s now just a disembodied head kept alive in a container, Vaneé hopes to use Kylo Ren to bring Vader back to power.

Ultimately, Kylo Ren needs to let go of who he is, even if that means his ‘death,’ much like Anakin Skywalker had to die to become Darth Vader. Kylo understandably struggles with this idea. The last scene we see shows him deeply disturbed by the sight of Vader’s helmet, a powerful image that highlights what motivated him throughout the first film, The Force Awakens.

Okay, so at first I thought this comic was going to be awesome, a real celebration of Vader’s story. But honestly, it’s starting to feel like a total letdown. You’ll have to grab Legacy of Vader #11 next week to find out exactly what’s going on, because I’m officially confused!
