A critically acclaimed historical drama starring Kristen Stewart, from the creator of Peaky Blinders, will soon be removed from Netflix. Though she’s known for her role in The Twilight Saga, Stewart has delivered some of her best performances in films like the 2016 drama Certain Women and the 2020 romantic comedy Happiest Season, which also stars Mackenzie Davis.
One of Kristen Stewart’s most acclaimed films is the 2021 psychological drama Spencer, in which she portrays Princess Diana. The movie takes place during a pivotal winter in 1991, as Diana contemplates divorcing Prince Charles and leaving the royal family. It was written by Steven Knight, who also created the popular series Peaky Blinders.
Netflix has announced that the movie Spencer will no longer be available on their platform after February 7th. That gives you about 15 days left to watch it. This news comes shortly before the release of the creator’s next project, Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, which will be available on March 20th.
Critics loved the movie Spencer when it came out. It currently has an 83% ‘Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 366 reviews. Kristen Stewart’s performance, which earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Actress, is widely considered to be one of the most realistic portrayals of Princess Diana ever filmed.
Even with the actor’s recent success, the film won’t be available to stream for very long. This includes The Chronology of Water, which marked Stewart’s first time directing a feature film. The movie was well-received by critics and won several awards at film festivals.
Despite not being a financial success – Spencer earned $25.2 million at the box office with an $18 million budget – the film received strong reviews and award nominations. This critical acclaim has led many to consider it a hidden gem in Kristen Stewart’s filmography.
After leaving Netflix, the movie won’t be available on any other streaming services. You’ll still be able to rent or buy it digitally, though. Considering the positive reviews and interest surrounding Spencer, it’s a good choice if you’re fascinated by stories about the royal family.
