A recent lawsuit claims Krafton’s CEO, Changhan Kim, attempted to avoid paying bonuses to the developers of Subnautica 2, and reportedly used ChatGPT to find ways to do so. Krafton has stated that the allegations in the lawsuit are false.
So, PC Gamer reported that this whole thing started with a lawsuit. Apparently, Krafton – you know, the company behind PUBG – is fighting with some old leaders from the team that made Subnautica. That’s where the info came from!
The legal dispute centers around a potential $250 million payment connected to Krafton’s 2021 purchase of Unknown Worlds. Former leaders claim Krafton grew worried they wouldn’t meet the revenue goals needed to release the money.
Krafton CEO allegedly turned to ChatGPT to avoid payout
The documents show Kim was concerned the payment might suggest he’d spent too much on the studio, which he reportedly considered a potentially damaging professional issue.
The people suing claim Kim directed company teams to find ways to hinder the sales of Subnautica 2 and even used ChatGPT to brainstorm ideas. They allege this was a deliberate attempt over several months to lessen the amount of money he owed based on the game’s success.

Krafton strongly rejects the claims made in the lawsuit, calling them baseless. They state that development of Subnautica 2 is continuing as expected and that the accusations mischaracterize internal conversations and the decision-making process for the franchise.
The lawsuit’s timing has also highlighted Krafton’s overall business direction. The company announced on October 23rd that it intends to prioritize artificial intelligence in all its future work.
Subnautica 2 is still planned to release in 2025, but a recent legal issue could affect those plans, and it’s unclear how much of an impact it will have on the launch date.
