Korean YouTuber Freezia under fire for not wanting her boyfriend to use Galaxy phone

Online personality Freezia is receiving criticism for stating she’d be unhappy if her partner owned a Samsung Galaxy phone.

The comment was made in a recent video on her YouTube channel, The Freezia. While getting her nails done, the star of Single’s Inferno was talking to a friend and they started discussing smartphones and what people look for in dating.

Freezia, also known as Song Ji-a, admitted she wouldn’t be thrilled if her boyfriend used a Samsung Galaxy phone. Although both of her parents are Samsung users, she feels it would be different in a romantic relationship.

The YouTuber, who has almost 4.6 million Instagram followers, said she found it really irritating that he was photographing her with his phone.

Korean YouTuber’s Galaxy phone comments spark backlash

She noted that photos from Galaxy phones appear different than those taken with iPhones. She also confessed she’s never personally used a Samsung phone, though her parents have.

Honestly, even when I try to take a close-up with my Galaxy, something always looks off with the framing. Plus, the way Galaxy phones process photos just feels totally different than what you get on an iPhone – the whole aesthetic is just… not the same.

Even though Freezia admitted she was excited about the release of the Flip phone, she almost bought one herself. She said it brought back memories of older flip phones, but she still prefers the iPhone. She finds it hard to use her mom’s phone because it’s much more complicated.

The video quickly went viral on social media, and many viewers felt the influencer disrespected Samsung Galaxy users. Some people commented that criticizing a popular brand like Samsung – especially in its home country of South Korea – was both unnecessary and impolite.

“It sounds like she’s judging people by their phone,” one remarked.

“I just think they’re prejudiced against people who don’t use iPhones,” another chimed in.

Some people came to Freezia’s defense, explaining that her comment was just a matter of personal opinion regarding phones and relationships.

This latest issue adds to the criticism the influencer has received. In 2022, she was accused of wearing fake designer items when she gained fame after being on the Netflix show, Single’s Inferno.

It’s not unusual for videos by Korean YouTubers to become national talking points. Last year, for example, mukbang creator Tzuyang gained a lot of attention when she shared that she needed surgery because years of eating large amounts of food had damaged her teeth.
