As a seasoned film enthusiast who has traversed the cinematic landscapes of numerous nations, I must say that the South Korean box office scene is truly a sight to behold. The latest Lotte Entertainment comedy “Pilot” soaring to the top once more is a testament to the power of homegrown talent and storytelling.
In its second weekend, Lotte Entertainment’s comedy “Pilot” continued to lead the South Korean box office, earning approximately $5.03 million and accounting for almost half of the total nationwide ticket sales.
According to Kobis, a tracking service run by the Korean Film Council (Kofic), the movie in question held approximately 46% of the market during the Friday-Sunday timeframe. After twelve days since its release, it has amassed a grand total of $20.3 million from more than three million ticket sales.
In its debut weekend, the Korean animated movie “Heartspring: Teenieping of Love” earned the second position, raking in $1.74 million. Over the course of a complete five-day release, its total earnings reached an impressive $2.68 million.
In a third-place finish, “Deadpool & Wolverine” brought in $842,000, primarily due to premium large format showings. After three weekends in South Korean theaters, its total earnings now stand at approximately $14.2 million. This places it as the 8th top-grossing film of the year in Korea and the fourth highest foreign release.
In the past week, “Despicable Me 4” saw a decrease of $1 million in earnings compared to the previous week and moved down from third to fourth place in the box office rankings. So far, it has made a total of $9.27 million since its release on July 24.
The recently premiered Korean crime movie titled “Revolver” garnered $749,000 on its fifth day, placing it fifth overall, resulting in a cumulative earnings of $1.33 million over the past five days.
“Since its release on June 12, “Inside Out 2″ has earned an additional $442,000, bringing its total to $60.9 million. This puts it firmly at the top of the list for highest-grossing imported films this year.”
Korea’s “Escape” earned $185,000 for a running total of $17.6 million after a month on release.
1. In their opening weekend, Japanese animation films claimed the second and third spots. “Bocci! The Rock! Movie Part 1” made $171,000 over the weekend, accumulating to $353,000 in five days. Since mid-July, “Detective Conan: The Million Dollar Pentagram” movie has earned a total of $4.97 million, with a weekend gross of $140,000.
The tenth position was held by previews of the upcoming movie “Twisters”. It earned an impressive $124,000 before its official release on a Wednesday.
During the recent weekend, the total box office earnings amounted to approximately $10.9 million, which is relatively low compared to what’s typically seen during summer months. Historically, this time of year tends to be robust, thanks to Korean moviegoers flocking to cinemas for the cool comfort provided by air conditioning and the thrilling chills offered by horror films.
