Hideo Kojima, the writer and director, recently discussed AI, stating he thinks it’s a permanent part of our future and there’s no turning back.
Hideo Kojima recently told Nikkei Xtrend, as reported by GamesRadar, that AI is becoming as essential to people’s lives as smartphones are today.
He believes it’s pointless to argue against using AI or dismiss it as worthless. He explained that, like smartphones, AI is here to stay and we can’t simply revert to a time before it existed.
Hideo Kojima’s views on AI echo those recently shared by Daniel Vavra, the lead on Kingdom Come: Deliverance. Vavra stated plainly that AI is now a permanent part of our world, and while that can be unsettling, it’s something we need to accept.
During the interview, Kojima also discussed how AI could change communication, suggesting it might help people who struggle with social anxiety feel more comfortable in conversations. However, he also cautioned that it’s important to be aware of how much we rely on AI.
Kojima previously stated that people should welcome, rather than worry about, the increasing use of AI. He believes AI can be a valuable asset for automating routine jobs, freeing up creative professionals to concentrate on more innovative endeavors.
Hideo Kojima’s views on AI aren’t universally shared. One producer from the Silent Hill team believes AI lacks the creativity to make truly impactful decisions. Beyond that, many people have raised concerns about AI’s potential downsides, such as job displacement and the environmental costs of building and powering AI systems. Interestingly, video game concept artists report that using AI tools doesn’t actually simplify their work.
Larian Studios, the team behind Baldur’s Gate and Divinity, recently addressed concerns sparked by CEO Swen Vincke’s statements about AI. Vincke explained that his original message was misinterpreted and plans to clarify his position with a full response in January.
