A koala is becoming famous online after it hopped onto a city bus in Brisbane. The bus driver helped the animal when it was trying to cross a dangerous, busy street.
Koalas are well-known symbols of Australia. These furry animals live in eucalyptus trees, eating the leaves, and are famous for being very sleepy – they spend 18 to 22 hours a day sleeping!
Just like wild animals, these creatures sometimes find themselves in trouble when they come into contact with people, and that’s what happened on December 14th.

Koala saved by Brisbane bus driver in viral rescue
Late one night, Koala Rescue Brisbane South got a call from a CityGlider bus driver who had saved a koala from being hit by traffic during his route.
The driver said the koala tried to dodge traffic before climbing up a light pole in the middle of the road.
The driver immediately stopped the bus and rushed over to the animal. He used his jacket to shield the animal – and himself – before going back to the bus.
A koala, eventually called Peri, briefly rode with passengers on a CityGlider bus before being taken to a nearby RSPCA wildlife hospital. After a full health check, staff cleared him to be released back into the wild the following day.
Peri the koala is doing well, happily eating eucalyptus leaves at Seven Hills Bushland Reserve. Koala Rescue Brisbane expressed their gratitude to the bus driver who rescued him, praising their kindness and quick action on social media.

They also cautioned readers that koalas, when frightened, can be dangerous to people without rescue experience, as they have sharp claws and teeth.
Experts advise against handling koalas unless you have specific training. They have sharp claws, can bite, and squeezing their chest can cause severe injuries, according to a recent statement.
If you find a koala that’s hurt, try to keep it safely contained until help can arrive, without actually touching the animal. A dark space is best – a laundry basket with a towel over it works well, but if you don’t have one, even a bus will do in an emergency!
A dachshund named Valerie recently became a social media sensation in Australia after an incredible rescue. She went missing during a camping trip on Kangaroo Island and managed to survive alone in the wild for over a year! Thankfully, she was finally found and is now back home with her relieved and happy owners.
