Kit Harington is eager to appear in the upcoming Harry Potter TV series. Regardless of whether he gets a part, he’s noticed a puzzling inconsistency in the books that he’d like to discuss.
Most people recognize the actor as Jon Snow from Game of Thrones, a role he played for almost ten years. However, he’s now moved on from that part of his career, as he recently shared in an interview with Variety.
Kit Harington said he has no interest in reprising his role as Jon Snow for a potential Game of Thrones audiobook. He explained that after spending a decade playing the character, he’s happy to move on and doesn’t want to revisit it.
He’s now taking on a major role in British pop culture by narrating Gilderoy Lockhart for the new Harry Potter audiobook series. However, he’s noticed a plot inconsistency in the fourth book, Goblet of Fire, that he’s curious about.
Kit Harington points out Harry Potter plot hole

The issue centers around the Triwizard Tournament, a historic magical contest between three wizarding schools – Hogwarts, Beauxbatons, and Durmstrang – that is brought back in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
Fans have raised concerns about many aspects of the tournament over the years, but Kit Harington specifically highlights the issue that, despite being promoted as a huge global event, a large portion of it isn’t actually accessible for viewers to watch.
Speaking about Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, the Game of Thrones actor said they enjoyed it and thought the ending was strong, but they did have a few questions about some plot inconsistencies during the Triwizard Tournament.
Honestly, this tournament isn’t very exciting to watch. Besides the dragon event, we can’t see what’s happening underwater or in the maze, so it’s hard to understand why the rest of the school is even interested.
If you recall from the book, the second challenge happens underwater in the Black Lake. This means everyone – students, teachers, and guests – has to wait on the shore because they can’t see what’s going on.
From a viewer’s standpoint, the last part of the competition is the most frustrating: the leading players get lost in a magical maze, and everyone else is left watching walls of bushes for a long time with no idea what’s happening.
If you overlook this one weakness, many fans believe the tournament creates larger problems with the story’s overall plot. The biggest question people have is why Harry was made to participate in the first place.
One fan pointed out a major plot problem with Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire: if Harry was always meant to compete in the Triwizard Tournament, what was the purpose of even having a tournament with multiple competitors?

Instead of making Harry compete in the Triwizard Tournament to get him to touch the cursed Cup, Crouch Jr. could have easily used a different Portkey and isolated Harry within the school, then simply had him touch the object using his position as a professor. This would have saved a lot of time and effort.
I’ve seen some fans theorize that Voldemort didn’t actually kill Harry in the maze, but faked his death. They think he did this to keep people from realizing he was back, because if everyone thought Harry defeated him, it would hide his return. Honestly, though, I don’t really buy that explanation. It just doesn’t feel right to me.
Initially, Voldemort – or those working for him – consistently left clues about his activities, but the wizarding community didn’t seem overly concerned. Even after Harry told everyone Voldemort had returned after Cedric Diggory’s death, very little actually changed.
More importantly, couldn’t they have found an easier way to explain why Harry died? Was it necessary to put him in so much danger during the Tournament, potentially even killing him before he even got to the Cup?
Furthermore, I believe the ritual is simply a plot device. It feels too convenient that Voldemort specifically required Harry’s blood to proceed.
A major problem is that the tournament’s supposed safety measures for age restrictions don’t work well. This allows Harry, who is too young to compete, to participate in dangerous challenges.
Over the years, fans have come up with many theories to explain confusing parts of the Harry Potter story. The new TV series offers a great opportunity to finally resolve those debates and make everything fit together more smoothly.
Kit Harington is eager to participate in the upcoming HBO show in any capacity. When asked which role he’d prefer, he said he’s happy to take on anything, even a small role as an extra, because he’s excited about being involved.
