Directors Alexandre Singh and Natalie Musteata are teaming up with Misia Films, based in Paris, to develop a full-length film version of their acclaimed short movie titled “Two People Sharing Spit.
In this film, narrated by Vicky Krieps, and featuring Zar Amir Ebrahimi (“Holy Spider”) and Luana Bajrami (“Portrait of a Lady on Fire”), we delve into a bizarre, tragicomic setting where kissing leads to capital punishment, and instead, people exchange goods through physical slaps. A habitual shopper and an innocent salesgirl find themselves attracted to each other, but they must hide their feelings due to the risk of arousing suspicion. As their bond deepens, they secretly nurture their connection.
The short movie was chosen by Barry Jenkins for its world debut at Telluride before it went on to win the grand jury prize at AFI Fest. The jury praised the film for its portrayal of how desire and longing can conflict in a capitalist society, while also presenting queerness as an ordinary aspect.

Directors Singh and Musteata were the recipients of both the audience prize and the Canal+ award at the recently concluded Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival. As a result, they will be refining their feature project through the Groupe Ouest lab in Brittany. Notably, actors Zar Amir Ebrahimi, Luana Bajrami, and Vicky Krieps have expressed enthusiasm about reprising their roles.

The latest victory for directors Singh and Musteata was winning both the audience award and Canal+ award at the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival last week. This success has opened up an opportunity for them to further develop their feature project through Groupe Ouest lab in Brittany. Moreover, actors Zar Amir Ebrahimi, Luana Bajrami, and Vicky Krieps have shown keen interest in rejoining the team.
According to Musteata, it was evident from the outset that our world and its characters were brimming with depth. However, due to the short’s 36-minute duration, we were left with a wealth of potential development in this utterly fascinating universe. There is much more to uncover, and our affection for these characters β even the villain β runs deep, I assure you!
Singh expresses that the entire journey has been an educational one for them. With backgrounds rooted in visual arts – where Singh worked as a professional artist for 20 years, and Natalie holds a Ph.D. in art history – they found themselves discussing the idea of filmmaking. However, their path was not straightforward; rather, they embrace a unique and somewhat unconventional style of cinema.
Through the Clermont-Ferrand Canal+ award, the French pay-TV service has chosen the short film for airing and will also invest in the filmmakers’ upcoming short projects before they are even made.
