Kim Sae-ron, Korean Star of ‘A Brand New Life’ and ‘The Man From Nowhere,’ Dies at 24

24-year-old South Korean actress Kim Sae-ron, renowned for her powerful performances since childhood, tragically passed away at her residence in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, on a Sunday.

According to Reuters, a friend found Kim’s body when she didn’t show up for their scheduled appointment. So far, authorities haven’t detected any signs of suspicious activity, and they are currently looking into the details leading up to her passing.

Kim, born in Seoul in 2000, started her acting journey when she was just nine years old. She garnered international attention with her role in “A Brand New Life” (2009), which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, earning her a spot among the youngest actors ever invited to this prestigious event. Her performance in “The Man From Nowhere” (2010) further established her as an emerging talent in the Korean film industry.

This actor effortlessly shifted from portraying child characters to tackling more intricate roles. Standout performances can be seen in films like “The Neighbor” (2012) and “A Girl at My Door” (2014). She has also left a lasting impact on television, appearing in series such as “The Queen’s Classroom” (2013), “Hi! School-Love On” (2014), and the 2016 fantasy series “Mirror of the Witch.” Additionally, her performance in the 2018 action-thriller film “The Villagers” made a lasting impression.

In May 2022, Kim encountered a challenging situation both personally and professionally after being involved in a DUI incident in Seoul’s Gangnam District. This unfortunate event led to property damage and a penalty of approximately KRW20 million ($13,815). After the incident, she decided to take a break from acting to ponder and address some health issues.

Originally, the actress had planned to return to work by taking on a role in the 2023 Netflix series “Bloodhounds.” However, following her DUI incident, most of her scenes were cut. Additionally, she also dropped out of the play “Trolley” for the same reason. Regrettably, Kim’s planned acting comeback with the production “Dongchimi” in 2024 has also been put on hold.
