Martin Scorsese’s film, Killers of the Flower Moon, a sweeping crime drama set in the American West, recently reached a significant milestone – a major release three years after its initial debut, which is remarkable for a newer movie. The 2023 film tells the story of the Osage Nation murders in the 1920s, a case that was one of the first major investigations for the newly formed FBI. Critics have overwhelmingly praised Killers of the Flower Moon.

Criterion has announced that Killers of the Flower Moon will join its collection on March 24, 2026. The film has been listed on Criterion’s ‘Coming Soon’ page, confirming its upcoming release, almost three years after it first hit theaters.

The Criterion Collection includes films widely recognized as important and influential in the history of cinema, showcasing a diverse range of international titles. While many significant films are considered, the Collection often prioritizes those for which the organization can easily secure rights, meaning newer, more mainstream movies are less frequently included.

As a movie fan, I think Killers of the Flower Moon absolutely deserves its place as a significant film. What really struck me was how it showed the Osage murders weren’t just random acts of violence, but were enabled by widespread corruption and the government deliberately looking the other way. And it’s a tough watch because the story unfolds through the perspective of the people committing these awful crimes, which is a really unsettling but powerful choice.

What really struck me about the movie was how it centered the Osage perspective, particularly through Lily Gladstone’s incredible performance as Mollie Burkhart. Seeing the story unfold through her eyes, as her husband, Ernest (Leonardo DiCaprio), and his uncle, William Hale (Robert De Niro), systematically targeted her family was devastating. The film didn’t pull any punches in showing just how awful their actions were, not just to Mollie and her loved ones, but to the entire Osage Nation.

This elevates Killers of the Flower Moon to one of Scorsese’s most significant films, shedding light on a crucial but often overlooked chapter in American history. The movie also offers a unique perspective compared to the book it’s based on, which primarily focuses on the investigation through the eyes of law enforcement.

As a big fan, I’m not surprised to see Killers of the Flower Moon already being added to the Criterion Collection! It really feels like a film that will be studied and appreciated for years to come. Considering Martin Scorsese’s incredible career, it makes sense that this movie achieved such a prestigious honor so quickly after its release.
