As a lover of theater and the enchanting world it offers, I find myself captivated by the tales of Kieran Culkin‘s escapades during his time in the stage production with Mark Ruffalo. The story of their youthful prank on opening night, swapping a prop joint for one laced with real marijuana, is a testament to the unique experiences that can only be found in the world of live performance.

Culkin’s account paints a vivid picture of the camaraderie and shared sense of humor that must have existed among the cast during their time together. The laughter and camaraderie that ensued as Phyllis Newman, Mark Ruffalo, and others discovered the unexpected effects of Culkin’s prank is something I can only imagine and long to be a part of someday.

As an admirer of both Culkin’s acting talent and his ability to keep audiences entertained, it comes as no surprise that he has once again found himself in the spotlight for his role in “A Real Pain.” I eagerly await the opportunity to see him continue to captivate us on the big screen.

And now, a little humor to lighten the mood: Perhaps Culkin’s next prank will be swapping out the script for one written entirely in Shakespearean verse – let’s hope the stage manager has a good sense of humor that night!

Kieran Culkin openly acknowledged an incident from his past: During a theatrical performance with Mark Ruffalo in 2000, he replaced a prop joint with one laced with real cannabis. This was the actor known for “A Real Pain” and “Succession.

In a recent interview with The Guardian, Culkin admitted he was reckless at 17. ‘I thought this prank was clever,’ he said, ‘but I was indeed foolish. Oh my goodness, I’m truly sorry.’ However, to his surprise, everyone seemed to enjoy it. Mark Rylance commented, ‘I haven’t touched pot in a decade. The second half will be a blast!’ There was also an actress who had never smoked marijuana before. She said, ‘Is this what being high feels like? This is delightful!’ Then Phyllis Newman walked in and exclaimed, ‘I haven’t smoked pot since the 1960s. Thank you, dear!’

At that point in time, Macaulay Culkin, Mark Ruffalo, along with other cast members, appeared in the Playwright Horizons’ staging of James Lapine’s play titled “The Moment When”.

In simpler terms, the stage manager angrily entered and demanded, “Whose it is doesn’t matter, nor does what transpired, but Kieran, pass me that marijuana joint.” Feeling embarrassed, I gave her the roach and she retorted, “Sort out your life on your own time.” As Culkin recalled, “I understand, I understand. But I was young. Now I’m 44. I know better. I won’t try to get anyone high during a performance.

Previously, Mark Ruffalo subtly mentioned the incident during his interview on The Graham Norton Show. However, he chose not to reveal Macaulay Culkin’s identity in that discussion.

In a production I was part of, I smoked marijuana during the first scene. There was a mischievous young actor in the cast with me. On opening night, surrounded by critics, we substituted a real joint for a prop. During the performance, my co-star and I smoked a large joint on stage. It was an unconventional move. At the end of the play, I received the best reviews of my career. However, it’s something I wouldn’t repeat.

Currently, Macaulay Culkin is traveling around to publicize the road comedy “A Real Pain,” which he co-stars in and was directed by Jesse Eisenberg. Culkin has received a nomination for the Golden Globe Award in the best supporting actor category for his performance in this film.
